"swimsuits on the line" is what I'm calling this song for now, because it originally had a reference to the John Prine song called "Summer's end." I got rid of the reference but the essence is still there.

"I will always love you" from my old bedroom in Albuquerque in 2020. I was feeling SOME kind of way when I sang this, between not seeing any friends or family for months on end and my own heavy drinking etc.

this is a song called "Wildfire."

I wrote this song in the fall of 2017 for a songwriting class at the University of New Mexico. I had been really shocked and affected by the images coming out of the Pacific Northwest during the fire season there that summer. at the time it seemed like a tragedy that couldn't be forgotten about.

now it just feels like another summer.

I'm singing this song now in my basement apartment in New York City, where the skies have turned orange and wildfire smoke from Ontario has blotted out the sun. it feels like the fires get closer and closer each year, and I know that one day soon I'll be watching the news and I'll see my parent's neighborhood in Massachusetts, with the pine hills gone up like a torch, and the place I grew up and the sunset I love so much turned to ash while I watch. you may think I'm a doomer; I think I'm just a pragmatist who's a little bit early.

I don't have any answers, and this isn't a soap box I'm standing on, I just find wildfires to be one of the most terrifying, awe inspiring, beautiful, natural, devastating, inevitable, heartbreaking phenomenons that I've ever laid eyes on.
