👾 Fine motor fun with Grab That Monster!

This activity works on fine motor skills including grasp, pinch strength, and in-hand manipulation, while also targeting bilateral coordination, visual scanning, and motor planning.

I also placed the colored cups on the opposite side of each matching monster to facilitate crossing midline, encouraging the child to reach across their body to retrieve and sort each piece. Crossing midline helps support bilateral integration, coordination, and foundational skills needed for handwriting and other classroom tasks.

Such a simple setup with so many skills built in!!!! Have fun! by @kiddietherapy

✨ Fine motor + visual perception fun! 🎨🧠

This simple color sorting and peg placement activity works on:
👋 Fine motor skills – strengthening little hands through pincer and tweezer grasp practice
👀 Visual perception – matching, patterning, and spatial awareness
💡 Focus and coordination – planning where each piece goes

It’s amazing how much learning happens through play 💕 by @kiddietherapy

🍦 Did you know activities like this “ice cream shop” are more than just play?

In pediatric OT, we use engaging, hands-on activities that target:
✔️ Fine Motor Skills – scooping, pinching, and pressing strengthen the small muscles needed for handwriting, dressing, and utensil use.
✔️ Tactile Processing – exploring textures builds comfort with new sensations and supports sensory regulation.
✔️ Visual Perception – matching, arranging, and decorating improve spatial awareness and visual-motor integration.
✔️ Sensory Play – multi-sensory activities support attention, regulation, and learning readiness.

✨ Play with a purpose = skill building that feels fun!

If your child struggles with fine motor skills, handwriting, or sensory processing, pediatric OT can help. Send me a message to learn more about in-home OT services in Los Angeles. 💌

🚀 Building Skills with a Rocket Ship Craft! Today we turned simple shapes into a rocket ship, a powerful skill-building moment!

Assembling and copying/tracing shapes helps your child develop visual motor skills (how their eyes and hands work together) and fine motor control (cutting, placing, gluing). These are key foundations for tasks like handwriting, dressing, and using school tools.

After building the rocket, we practiced writing the word “Rocket Ship,” supporting letter formation and motor planning in a fun, low-pressure way.

Crafts like these may look simple, but they’re packed with purpose! 🎨✂️📝.

Is your child struggling with tasks like holding a pencil, buttoning clothes, or using scissors?
These are signs of fine motor weakness, and they can impact confidence, school success, and independence.

In occupational therapy, we work on building strength, coordination, and control in those small muscles of the hands. Through play-based, purposeful activities (just like the ones in this photo!), we help kids develop the skills they need for everyday tasks.

Fine motor skills can improve—with the right support. If you’re noticing these challenges in your child, reach out to learn how OT can help! ❣️ taken in Los Angeles, California by @kiddietherapy
