Into the Woods: A Tale for the Folk 🌃

That was the first slide of my pitch deck for this show. It was really important to me, in tackling a classic with such relevant and universal themes and through-lines, that the world presented on that stage was free of the traditional Eurocentric barriers to entry. Without changing a word, everyone on this team is working at the top of their game to give you a fairy tale adventure that looks and feels like our beautifully diverse modern world at every turn, and I could not be more proud of that.

Absolutely vibrating with gratitude to be BACK in the choreo seat with a fairytale✨ team of creatives. I can’t wait to bring @kidgryphon ‘s vision to life showcasing the timelessness of these fairytales reflected in the diversity and complexity of our modern lives.

Tonight’s the night! Come on down to the Westchester Playhouse to witness the magic of the most incredible cast and crew this side of marriage equality 🩵

Putting this show together has proven and re-proven to me so many things about life, love, and myself as an artist. If nothing else, it’s clear I’m in this theatre thing for life. And just like that, we open in a week. Traversing the depths of my grief over my grandmother’s passing to build this show has been one of the beautiful and bewildering experiences of my life. Together, through it all, we’ve brought a dream to life, and I’ll never forget it.

I’m so proud of every single person involved for all of the brave and nuanced work they’ve been bringing to the table throughout this whole process. It is with great joy and gratitude that I can announce I’ll be directing The Color Purple for @chromolumetheatrela this spring 🥹

This story, in its many iterations, is one that has shown up to shepherd and inspire me in many pivotal moments of my life, and now is no different. The thought of being able to etch its life-changing messages in the hearts and minds of a new audience is… well, too beautiful for words.

🪩 Jellicle cats, come out THIS WEEKEND ONLY to experience the musical sensation sweeping the nation. 🪩

To know me is to understand that directing Cats with a cast of middle schoolers - as expertly produced by @saydjane, dazzlingly choreographed by @_katherinepowers_, and with Matt Ward and @catrionafray teaching this cast how to negotiate this labyrinthine score on their terms, PLUS gorgeously crafted and curated costumes by @prince.is.me - is nothing short of a dream come true. Let it be known, this team and this cast are the epitome of my Jellicle choice, and they’ll be yours too! 😸 Link for tickets is in my bio. You won’t want to miss this one.

Finished reading this book earlier in the weekend. Took a few weeks because I wanted to properly focus whenever I picked it up, but it’s an accessible + eye-opening read!

Walks you through the last ~125 years of our country’s immigration policies, and the origins of ICE and our utterly out-of-control modern-day enforcement apparatus. While nativism and white supremacy have predictably been animating forces for that whole period, up until as recently as the ‘90s our lawmakers overall actually had a much more nuanced, humane and gracious outlook on immigrants and their path to citizenship.

A timely reminder that none of these systems are innate, but rather were all dreamt, designed, and advocated into being - which means it is entirely possible to dream a new dream, and turn to (in some cases, return to!) systems that don’t spit in the face of human rights.

I’m excited to continue deepening my knowledge and fighting the fight. What the system is comfortable doing to any one of us, it will gleefully exercise the power to do to the rest of us. Don’t look away. by @kidgryphon
