Kayla- Part TWO ✨✨ I chose to paint Kayla’s ends with @colorspacehair LIFT FREEHAND because they wanted their curls to be dipped in Gold ✨ They showed me a reference photo with Copper ends but luckily consultations are my super power and through defining boundaries I learned that they did not want to see orange!

We had a really good chat about color theory and Natural Remaining Pigment (should I share that as well?) and settled on a creamy golden tone that would fade beautifully in the California sunshine ☀️

This was completely Kayla’s concept and I think that’s so important to note- They trusted me to carry out their vision after not coloring or cutting for over 7 years! I was honored to be trusted and took my time to UNDERSTAND their desired outcome for a guaranteed successful result. They are thrilled with their new look and I have the camera roll to prove it 🌈💕

ok ya’ll it’s story time! For my birthday in the fall my daughter and I went to LA ☀️ While the trip did not go as planned we did have so many unexpected glimmers and meeting @kidkayla.c was one!

They were our @uber driver and after we hit it off they agreed to be our driver on the morning of my birthday so we could go to @santamonicapier before flying out 🎡🏖️✈️

We decided to keep in touch and I told them to hit me up if they were ever in NYC and I’ll do their hair! Having them in the salon @treehousesocialclub.nyc was such a radical moment of connection and we had a blast!

Kayla hadn’t colored or cut their hair in the better part of a decade and mostly wear braided styles. They really wanted to try a curly fringe but didn’t want to lose much length or add layers so they could continue to braid easily. I used all @backofbottle products to support this healthy maintenance experience.

Kayla loves to style with conditioner so we put Free Rein Curl Conditioner to work, adding Curl Crème for some hold. I finished with High Hydrating Moisturizing Oil for high shine and frizz control. 💪✨

Stay tuned for part two tomorrow, breaking down the color process 🧪👩‍🔬🎨 with @colorspacehair
