Out now! The Boss Corporation from Japan invited me to construct a tape that demonstrates the now classic Dr. Sample SP-202. December last year I first got my hands on the The Boss. Initially I thought I would hook it up to one of my sequencers since this first model of the SP family doesn’t have a sequencer to fully arrange a song on board.
But as soon as I started ‘simply’ looping stuff on this machine, I couldn’t stop feeding it with loops from records from my collection.
By the end of december I had 44 tracks recorded in my computer. Some tracks were just one loop, while other tracks combined linear phrases by pressing different loop buttons real time. Some had drums in it, others didn’t and remained beatless. About 9 out of the 44 loops of the records I sampled have already been used on other productions by legends such as Roc Marciano, Ka, Dilla, Jay Z, Nucleus, Diamond D and Madlib. The rest is probably terra incognita to most heads.

Available @platypusrecordshop, limited quantities!

Yesterday we said goodbye to my dad, Karel Gesthuizen. Normally I don’t post family pictures, but this is different. This is me and my dad through time. He was a selfmade man, very succesfull in business. He loved his family, horses and gardening, a man with lots of love, energy and strength. I learned quite a bit from him. At his cremation ceremony I choose The Meters. Wichita Lineman represents my feeling of the past two weeks. Damn, no more phone calls…but I still feel you. I’m gonna miss you dad! 🫡 🍻#RIP by @kidsundance_official

Friday Night 12 Bit Snackin’! No party vibe this one. French prog/fusion drums combined with parts of a rare German synth kraut record. Turns out to be quite meditative. #12bit#instrumentalhiphop#rarerecords##samples by @kidsundance_official

The Bontempi Musicpartner MS40 drone machine. This educational keyboard sounds like a Farfisa Compact they say. The chord memory on this is modest but effective.

Last weekend we headed north at last. No less than 8 records (remixes included) with my music production are shown at the expo ‘Hip hop is’ in Groninger Museum! Very honored to be part of this impressive collection (840 vinyl records) of dutch hip hop records history curated by @dutchhiphoparchive . Great expo with old school graff and more, go visit! It’s insane! Still open for a couple of weeks. #hiphopis#expo#groningermuseum#dutchhiphoparchive by @kidsundance_official
