Out now! The Boss Corporation from Japan invited me to construct a tape that demonstrates the now classic Dr. Sample SP-202. December last year I first got my hands on the The Boss. Initially I thought I would hook it up to one of my sequencers since this first model of the SP family doesn’t have a sequencer to fully arrange a song on board.But as soon as I started ‘simply’ looping stuff on this machine, I couldn’t stop feeding it with loops from records from my collection.By the end of december I had 44 tracks recorded in my computer. Some tracks were just one loop, while other tracks combined linear phrases by pressing different loop buttons real time. Some had drums in it, others didn’t and remained beatless. About 9 out of the 44 loops of the records I sampled have already been used on other productions by legends such as Roc Marciano, Ka, Dilla, Jay Z, Nucleus, Diamond D and Madlib. The rest is probably terra incognita to most heads.
