I'm so in love with East Harlem and am forever honored to be able to call this place my home the long way.

We work harder than we play, though it don't look that way. I'm proud of the elders and OGs who have paved the way and am honored to be in position to learn so that this work may continue. There is no Reclaiming what we refuse to give up.

Never forget where you are. And thats on land that was fertilized by the music, love, blood, sweat & tears of Foundational Black Americans.

Made a short playlist for those who'd appreciate a short primer in the obvious musical influence Black America has had on the rest of the world, from jump.

You don't have to identify in order to stand beside the true stewards of this land. At the end of the day, We All Come From Blackness.

Vibes in this post:
1. Rashid Johnson's "Color Men" (2015). I saw "A Poem For Deep Thinkers" over the summer at the @guggenheim and it was truly one of the most moving installments I've experienced, esp as I was moving thru grief myself. I've been hooked on his work ever since.

2. "I, Too" by Langston Hughes. Published in 1926 and still hittin in 2026. 'Nuff said.

Hey guys xx! Here is a visual I made for EJ's school PTA and re-vamped a bit, outlining all of the museums one can attend for free or with suggested donation (pay 5 cents if you need to) in New York City. Many people within our community aren't aware that this is available to them, but its a great way to spend the day away during holiday break and midwinter recess, especially when so many of our museums have excellent kids & family programming.

Even if ur not a kid, I spent much of my late teens visiting museums by myself off the strength of my ID and the $5 I was willing to donate. Great way to re-calibrate and reset the mind.

I think in my efforts to keep it together in the way I was taught to, I painted the picture that my life is perfect and that I dont experience tough shit. This year was one of the hardest years of my life. I got more done than I've gotten done in one single year in a loooonnnnng time, but it was all born out of some very tough lessons.

But I forget that there r other ppl who feel alone in their normalcy bc everyone is aiming to "keep it together"--and doing so terribly. Normalize going thru ur shit and being loud, candid, even transparent about it. Cus how else wud others know that there's something on the other side. So thats my tea moving forward. U can always come back to Self. It'll get harder the farther u stray, but the whole point of this thing is the return isnt it.
