EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTARY LOCAL KNOWLEDGE — INTRODUCTION

What happens when everything changes in a moment?

In a regional town like Pemberton, Western Australia, it’s not just emergency services that respond — it’s everyday people. Volunteers. Locals. Community.

This is the beginning of Local Knowledge — a documentary sharing the real stories behind the people who step up when it matters most.

Through a powerful car crash scenario, we uncover how volunteers work together, how they train, and what it truly means to be there for others.

This is more than a story.
This is the backbone of regional Australia.

John Evans | Fire Lookout Trees of the South West🌳

High above the karri forest, the lookout trees once gave foresters an extraordinary view across the South West. John Evans shares the history behind these trees, their role in early fire detection, and the people who climbed them to help protect the forest below. taken in Southern Forests & Valleys by @kieran_dearle

No matter where you are in your career, there’s always something new and important to learn.

Continuing to study, improve, and challenge yourself is one of the best investments you can make.

Looking back at this graduation photo reminds me how far I’ve come. Learning filmmaking the professional way from production through to storytelling, directing and producing. it has been an incredible experience. Studying at @saeaustralia has been genuinely rewarding, and combining the experience I had before with everything I’ve learned has helped me grow so much as a filmmaker.

One more trimester left until I complete my Associate Degree in Film.

Thank you so much to my family for supporting me throughout this journey. I truly couldn’t have done it without you.

Mum, I love you. Thank you for always believing in me and standing by my side. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me.

It’s been an entertaining, unfunded, and tough journey filming across Australia’s South West. EPK Behind the scenes.

A whole year of filming in between university, client work, and family but I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved and for the powerful stories told throughout this series production.

The release date trailer is coming soon.

Please support.
We need more voices.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE — PART 4
The Next Call (Video 3)
Finale

This is the future.

Regional communities continue to rely on volunteers — people willing to step forward when it matters most.

Fire and Rescue. St John. Police. Emergency services.
All connected by one thing: community.

But the future depends on more than those already serving.

It depends on new people stepping in.
Learning. Training. Caring. Responding.

If you want to make a difference — this is where it starts.
For the people. For the place. For the future.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE — PART 4
The Next Call (Video 2)

Regional fire and rescue doesn’t stop.

It runs on a small group of volunteers who are constantly ready — balancing work, life, and community duty.

The calls keep coming.
The need keeps growing.

And when something goes wrong, distance means everything.

That’s why support matters.
That’s why people stepping forward matters.

Because every call needs a response.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE — PART 4
The Next Call

Every call relies on someone being there.

In regional communities, that number is getting smaller — and the need is only growing.

New volunteers are stepping up.
Learning. Training. Carrying the responsibility forward.

But more people are needed.

To answer the next call.
To support their community.
To be there when it matters most.

This is where the future begins.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE — PART 3
The Weight of the Road

Out here, distance changes everything.

In regional towns, when something goes wrong — help isn’t always close.

Fire and Rescue. Police. St John. Volunteers.
All working together across long roads and wide landscapes to protect their communities.

But the reality is simple — more support is needed.

Because on these roads, every second matters.
And every response carries weight.

This is the reality of regional Australia.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE — PART 2
The Volunteers

Listen to the voices behind the response.

From experienced volunteers to the younger crew learning the ropes — this is where knowledge is passed on.

Through real scenarios like a car crash, they train, adapt, and grow together.

What does it mean to step up at a young age?
What do they carry forward into the future?

This is more than training.
This is building the next generation.
