I'm really excited to be creating a collection of vibrant 3d wall art. Breathing new life into unwanted yarn and offering up a splash of dopamine decor!

These pieces are often compared to coral but I liken them to lichen! Sorry, I can't resist a pun. 😂😁

Let me know what you think in the comments.

'Reclaimed scaffold'

I'm so pleased with this rustic piece. Made with an old scaffold plank which has been lovingly sanded and waxed with my signature 3d crochet cups added. This is a really tactile, colourful and playful piece.

I'm playing with the idea that nature will reclaim everything when given the chance. Like how lichen grows on a park bench for example.

I couldn't decide which way up this one should go so I'll let you decide!

Acrylic on canvas is usually a term used for paintings using paint and a brush. I paint with a different type of acrylic.

And this is my biggest piece yet!

I have grappled with the decision of using acrylic yarn over wool as I'm all too aware of the environmental impact. However, wool is likely to be eaten by moths meaning I couldn't guarantee the longevity of a piece.

So, not wanting to add more plastic into the world, I use unwanted yarn. Often ends of finished projects or a hobby someone fell out of love with. Giving them a new life and creating something beautiful that will stand the test of time.

I'm very much inspired by nature and I'm really pleased these art works are often compared to coral on the barrier reef!

Should I do autumnal colours next?

If you are interested in purchasing one of my art pieces, please feel free to send me a dm. 😊 by @kifty.art

Do you think I've got enough yarn?!

When creating, I always prefer to use materials that already exist in the world rather than buying new. Too much goes to waste. It's so important to utilise what we've already got!

I make use of yarn that people destash. The end of a skein of yarn from a jumper, odds and ends from a childs baby blanket, or disguarded threads from a hobby someone decided wasn't for them.

I can use them all to create beautiful, fresh, vibrant and colourful wall art.

This was taken @willwayyard for @southbristolartstrail last weekend. It was so nice to have my work displayed on gallery walls and seen by the public.

I have been crocheting the cups for some time now, making sure I have plenty of each colour in my pallete. Collecting all the colours I need from second hand sources is important to me. I like to use resources that already exist.
Then for the fun bit! Dropping them on the canvas and playing with patterns. Each crochet cup on the canvas pieces gets sewn into the canvas one by one. Then carefully tied at the back to create a whole other piece of art when turned around.

And a big shout out to @ehvibesbristol for helping me with the prints. Couldn't recommend him enough! taken in Bristol, United Kingdom by @kifty.art

So pleased to have finished my biggest piece yet. With over 90 crochet cups, in 36 different colours. This one was a labour of love but I'm planning even bigger projects in the near future.

I learnt how to stretch canvas for this one and I'm proud to say the canvas is as tight as a drum! This piece has 2 sheets of canvas for added strength and rigidity. The crochet cups are carefully sewn into the canvas and tied one by one at the back. So when the piece is turned around you can see a rainbow of tails!

I am inspired by nature and my work is often compared to coral, which I love.

This will be on show and available to buy

Today's settup. Prepping boards for the @southbristolartstrail in the sun. Not too shabby!

These boards are cut from 1 scaffold plank which has already led 2 very different lives. I like to think their next chapter is their most beautiful yet! Take a look at the 3rd slide to see how they'll turn out.

I love repurposing old materials and giving them a new lease of life.

Have you also spotted my cheeky crochet cups on the water feature boxes? Experimenting with how the cups might hold up as street art. Love the idea of dropping a bit of nature inspired art in the city.

Details of the arts trail are
Venue 45 @Willwayyard
19 + 20th September
10am - 5pm

Plenty of great artists to check out at this venue and the ones nearby, so well worth coming by.

I love how the wood shines before I've even treated it. Just stripped it back to basics with a sander. 👌

Treated with bees wax and adorned with a rainbow of my crochet cups.

Would you like to see pieces focusing on one colour?

I couldn't resist the light in the kitchen yesterday evening! I knew it would be the ideal spot for Wild Swimmer in wool with her mossy swimming cap in the dappled light, as the sun dipped behind the hedge in our garden peppered with buddleia, jasmine, honeysuckle and clematis flowers.

She's a sketch on canvas, adorned with tactile wool crochet cups.

She'll be on sale at this year's @southbristolartstrail @willwayyard in September. I have been reliably informed that the arts trail map is now available on their website, with paper copies being rolled out soon!

'Wild Swimmer'

Wild swimmer sporting the height of Soft Girl summer fashion, the moss swim cap! She's soft, she's earthy, she's calm and regulated. She's all about self care.

The first is a sketch with markers and the second is crochet and sketch on canvas. I love the vibrancy of the first but I think the tactile, 3d structure on the canvas is my favourite. Which do you prefer?

Also, did you know that humans can see more shades of green than any other colour?

A few more photos of my recent commissioned artwork.

Structural 3d crochet art mounted in a frame. I love using bold, bright colours to add a pop of dopamine decor!
