The garden version of THE WALK OF SHAME🤭🤣. The only path that is harder to walk is taking my husbands tools back to the shop. BYW, he was a tad chippy washing all those mugs. by @kikis_petal_patch_

Fall is finally in the air and it’s been just magical. Best of days with the best neighbor and friend a flower living gal could ask for. by @kikis_petal_patch_

First of many gratitude posts. It’s been a struggle to post about my garden shenanigans since the dahlia crop failed. Ive been busy behind the scenes planning and scheming for the big comeback of ‘27 though. But what I hadn’t planned on was the outrageous support and sharing that has come from my flower tribe. I’m simply humbled by the generosity of my sisters. Sweet, quiet Lily has been there for it all and she sent me this box of tubers. If your tribe doesn’t pick you up when you’re down, cheer your success and most importantly, tell you when to shut TF up and to pump the brakes, you need to find new ppl. Back when I had dahlias. And eyelashes🤭 by @kikis_petal_patch_

Recent days out in the patch. Few things come to mind..1) I miss my dahlias. 2) somebody had a heavy hand with that mustard seed. 3) trying to compensate for my lack of eye lashes with heavy pigment on my eyebrows is no different than a short dude driving a jacked up monster truck 😉✌️ by @kikis_petal_patch_

Ever drink out of jam jars while wondering where all the coffee cups are? Yeah. Me either. by @kikis_petal_patch_

While I wouldn’t recommend or even say that hand weeding Bermuda, goose and crab grass is a good time, It was extremely therapeutic to rip that shit out of the dirt with intact root balls. Every successful yank emitted a very loud “Fk you ___” for every dahlia tuber I planted this year. My version of roll call 😆😆. It’s a good thing there is a bit of distance between me and my neighbors. Thank goodness they know me well enough now that they don’t get excited when I scream “Night silence , you’re a rotten bitch” or better yet, “Dickie W, I am gonna drown your dumb ass again”. Seriously though, it took days to clear all the grass/ weed clumps out of here. It was mainly in the walk rows as the tubers did a good job of controlling the overgrowth in the beds. I need a better plan for next seasons paths. I won’t do barrier cloth EVER again as I am still pulling it up in places over in the OG plot. Ideally, I want a living green row that can walk on, it not wallow out and become a mud fest but also not an overgrown jungle of weeds. More of my baby bear mentality. Fellow dahlia addicts… what do yall use? by @kikis_petal_patch_

Cover your ears if expletives bother you. Or don’t. I started the season with wayyyyy too many tubers. Shocking huh🫣. I was rolling with it. Had the main garden planted out by the first week of April and we were out there cooking with gas yall. The absolute best start ever. Green. Lush. Prolific blooms. Very little pest pressure. I was crowing left and right to anyone who would listen and to plenty of folks who weren’t 😆. Then the rain stopped. The temps creeped up. South winds straight out satans asshole. Humidity off the chain. Here came the pests, one of which in all my years of growing stuff have I ever seen in my ornamentals. Vine borers dropped my stems overnight. Broad mites held a rave and handed out the party favors. It was the perfect storm and before I even had a clue what was going on, it was over. Fat lady was singing her ass off. I’ve cried. Cussed. Cried some more. And then got mad. Real mad and I cut every stinking plant down to the ground. Threatened to torch the shit but we’re in a burn ban. I can be reasonable sometimes. So, I gave up and threw in the proverbial towel. You can’t beat Mother Nature and definitely not in an El Niño season. So, there yall have it. Well over 1000 plants and that crate of sad sack mothers and root balls is all I have to show for it. But ya know what? I’m not mad or sad anymore. What I am now is determined. I truly needed to cut back to a more manageable number and MN did it for me. The universe knew what I needed when I was to dumb and nose blind to see it for myself. So, ta-ta for now dahlias. I’m already 3 notebooks in for plans for next season. Buckle up babies. It’s gonna be lit✌️ by @kikis_petal_patch_

May or might not resort to cherry picking varities to dig and leave the rest to fend for themselves after I cover crop. Time for bathroom break boss (who knows what movie I watched last night?) Andy ought to be waiting for me in Alaska, not Costa Rica. 🥵🥵🥵 by @kikis_petal_patch_

Let’s start showing the great dahlia debacle and demise of 2026. Stay tuned to this channel for more fun updates. Yep. That’s how it’s gonna roll from here on out 😆😡😭✌️ by @kikis_petal_patch_
