Another Faith in the Forest event was held at Kilchoan last Saturday.

It was a wonderful opportunity for people to explore the estate and discover some of the Christian influences that have helped shape this area. The group visited the St John’s Cross and St Comghans Chapel before gathering around the fire to share a meal.

These events aim to connect people with the natural environment, create space to explore the spiritual aims of the Trust, and provide an opportunity to enjoy good company and great food! by @kilchoantrust

It's that time of year, the leaves are starting to turn, it's getting colder and the nights are drawing in.
There are some wonderful things starting to appear so keep your eyes open while you're out and about.
Some notable fungi to look out for include.

Hazel gloves (Hypocreopsis rhododendri), a species that is found almost exclusively on hazel trees in temperate Atlantic rainforest where glue fungus is present.
A good indicator of clean air and a priority species on the UK Biodiversity Action Plan and Scottish Biodiversity List.

Waxcaps (Hygrocybe), these wonderful brightly coloured fungi are an ancient grassland and meadow indicator, due to loss of habitat they are a globally vulnerable species by the IUCN. by @kilchoantrust

With the sun shinning yesterday, it was the last chance to observe Marsh fritillary larval webs on 2 of our transects, as well as anywhere else around the estate. During the warmer sunny weather they are seen sunning themselves in or on the surface of the web.

These fantastic little butterflies rely on Devil's-bit scabious (Succisa pratensis) as the primary food plant for their larvae, other scabious species will occasionally be eaten too.
Large groups of larvae assemble within silk webbing, travelling from plant to plant feeding on the leaves till the weather becomes too cold and wet, where they then move down into the dense grassy layer to wait out the winter.

Marsh Fritillary is one of eleven butterflies species covered by the Biodiversity Action Plan, depending on grassland and suitable grazing practices to be successful. by @kilchoantrust

Last week, we were delighted to host 13 marine ecology students from ETH Zurich as part of their marine field ecology course.

During their time with us, the students got hands-on experience supporting our Native Oyster Restoration Project, while also visiting local universities and aquaculture businesses to learn more about marine research and sustainable aquaculture.

They also had the opportunity to explore and learn about the wider restoration work taking place here at Kilchoan, including our ongoing marine and terrestrial restoration projects and the connections between healthy ecosystems both on land and in the sea.

It was fantastic to share our work, exchange knowledge and learn from such an enthusiastic group of students. A big thank you to everyone who helped make their visit possible and to the students for getting stuck in! by @kilchoantrust

The first of our fantastic new magnifying lens posts have gone out around the estate.
These have been placed on or near tracks and paths for members of the public to use, helping them get a little closer to the natural world. by @kilchoantrust
