KillJack may be a fresh name in the Wellington music space, but Jack is no stranger to Aotearoa Hip Hop. Formerly known as “ILY KA$PER” and even further reminisced by Dunedin OG’s as “Casper Rose”. His love for rap was driven by influences such as lil Wayne, Trippie Redd, Lil Yachty and XXXTENTACION in particular would open a door to music that wouldn’t ever be shut.

“I was about 14 at the time and my bro’s family had a crib down south a couple hours out of Queenstown, we would go down there for the weekend and snowboard throughout the day, when we got home we’d retreat to the sleep out, roll spliffs and freestyle till we’d crash. It wasn’t long till we were loading up beats on garage band, I bought a Microphone and the homie bought a MIDI Keyboard. Less than a year later I had releases on Soundcloud and within a year I debuted my first single “Bad Things” on Spotify under the name “Casper Rose” I think I was about 15-16 at the time”.

He continued to release music for the next 2 or so years until everything seemed quiet… “ my taste started to change drastically and suddenly the music I was making at the time didn’t satisfy me the same way. I jumped headfirst into soul beats and East Coast Boom Bap until pretty quickly it’s all I was making. Because it was so far apart from the old music I was making I spent a couple years away from the screen refining my sound. I’m now back on the verge of releasing music again and coming back with a sound that can’t be boxed”
