WOW!!! Mijn foto op Times Square!! ❤️‍🔥

Echt een droom die uit komt. Het blijft altijd bijzonder om mijn werk 'in het wild' te zien, maar mega groot op Times Square is toch even wat anders. Echt te gek!

Begrip is het minste wat je kan doen. Iemands verhaal écht zien.

Zo begon dit project. Samen met Ajla documenteerde ik de verhalen van Nina, Abed en Leva. Drie kinderen van migranten die opgroeien met de geschiedenis van hun ouders. Hun families verlieten hun land door oorlog, politieke of economische omstandigheden en bouwden een nieuw leven op in Nederland. Zij geven stem aan de vaak onuitgesproken verhalen van hun ouders: over leven tussen twee werelden, over verlies en veerkracht, over trots, verdriet en liefde.

Ik ben trots om te vertellen dat onze serie de komende zes weken geëxposeerd wordt bij @coffeecompany
De opening is aanstaande zondag om 16:00 bij @cceendrachtsplein en iedereen is welkom. Wie komt langs om hem te bekijken en een koffietje met ons te drinken?

Unboxing time! Het blijft zo cool om mijn werk geprint te zien, dat geeft zo'n andere dimentie aan je werk. Echt prachtig deze prints van @profotonet !

Deze foto's zijn deel van de nieuwe serie 'Ik Zie Je', die de verhalen deelt van leven tussen twee werelden, veerkracht, trots, verdriet en liefde.
Kleur is super belangrijk in mijn werk en dit komt echt perfect uit met deze print techniek op dibond 💙 by @kimdehoop

Ik Zie Je. I See You.

A story about war, loss, resilience and rebuilding. Some projects are simply work, while others hit much closer to home. This project hit my home, in more ways than one.

A few months ago, I sat down with three people: Nina, Abed, Leva. All three children of immigrants. I invited them to speak about identity, belonging, family, and the experience of growing up between different worlds.

This subject is deeply personal to me, as I am a child of immigrants myself. It shaped the way I approached this project completely, from the conversations I had with Nina, Abed and Leva, to the visual choices made around each of their stories. Nothing was chosen simply because it looked good.

Abed wears his Keffiyeh with pride. Nina stands in a strong and powerful Yugoslavian red. Leva wears traditional Malian basin, carrying a visible connection to his father and the culture passed down to him.

The colour in each photo carries meaning. Knowing which colours belonged to someone’s story, which ones held history, and which ones simply weren’t ours to touch.

All of these details became part of translating something deeply personal into something visual without reducing anyone to their heritage. From the stories we chose to tell to the way I wanted each person to be seen, not defined by where they come from, but portrayed in all the complexity that comes with it.

The result is I See You, a series I’m incredibly proud to have created together with photographer @kimdehoop. This Sunday, we’re bringing the work into the physical world with an exhibition at @cceendrachtsplein in Rotterdam. Come see the stories and come see the people behind them 🤍.
