This morning we said goodbye to our best friend, the purest example of unconditional love this side of heaven. It was the single hardest thing we have ever done.

The girls don’t remember a single day of their lives without Kai. He has seen every tear, every milestone, every sleepover, every first day of school. He holds every secret. Every night, he went back and forth between their rooms, making sure his girls were okay…right up until his very last.

He was in pain, and we made the decision to give some of that unconditional love back to him. It was the right decision, the last gift we could give our best boy, but we are completely heartbroken.

I still remember going that first day to get a different dog. Kai apparently had a different plan. He jumped into my lap, laid his head down on me, and that was it. He chose us…..and our lives were so much better because of it.

Thank you, buddy, for 16+ years of loving us, growing up with the kids, being the sweetest part of our day, and making our family complete.

I was looking around at the beautiful people Luke & Maddie gathered on both sides, all friendly and sweet, a wonderful group. It hit me out of the blue.

With the exception of our friend Krista, who is in heaven, and my sister, who had lots of kid duties, Jena & Mikes entire bridal party was there from their wedding 31 years ago. Of course, we had to recreate the moment.

What a beautiful sentiment and example of 2 people that love completely, celebrate life, work hard and figure things out together, value their circle, and show up for people. Love you both sm. @jenahirth @mikehirth1 by @kimhooker3

All you can ever hope for your family is they find someone equally matched. These 2 are kind, gentle, loving, fun and attentive to each other and everyone around them. They’ve known each other forever and have the sweetest love story. So thankful I was able to witness this sweet wedding and spend time with my family. @luke.hirth @maddie.hirth by @kimhooker3

1 year.
Feels like yesterday and an eternity. You would love all the stories and secrets everyone is still sharing. Your name is brought up in rooms every day…literally. You would love that Taylor mentioned you while accepting her hall of fame award. Kenny is releasing 2 of your songs next week. More than anything, you would be wildly proud of how your kids stepped up. No one has stopped talking about you for a second and in some strange way it seems like you are still here. I guess that is the true definition of legacy. by @kimhooker3
