The film traces a journey through the places and institutions that shape this story: From Ballett am Rhein (@ballettamrhein) at Deutsche Oper am Rhein (@operamrhein) in Düsseldorf and Duisburg, to Hamburg Ballet (@hamburgballet) at Hamburg State Opera (@staatsoperhamburg), then to Teatro La Fenice (@teatrolafenice) in Venice and the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón (@teatrocolon) in Buenos Aires, before arriving at Stuttgart Ballet (@thestuttgartballet) and the @johncrankoschool in Stuttgart.

Stills from BETWEEN TIMES ✨
“Both Sides Now” — a solo created by @demis.volpi for the the documentary film by @liselottefilms @kimikado_ — Worldpremiere @filmfesthamburg September 26, 2026

What can movement express when words fall short?

DEMIS VOLPI × ELISA BADENES × DEMIAN MARTIN × PADRAIC ROWAN x LISA JILG x RESONANZ KOLLEKTIVE
edited by Sam Aron Handel

In the aftermath of the tensions surrounding the transition at Hamburg Ballet, Director @kimikado_ asked Demis Volpi to create something in his own language: This solo gave space to shape his experience through dance.

Conceived for the camera in collaboration with cinematographer Lisa Jilg, and performed by Stuttgart Ballet First Soloist Elisa Badenes, the solo was created especially for BETWEEN TIMES.

Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” is reimagined for the film by composer Demian Martin on piano, with vocals by Padraic Rowan, bass-baritone at Deutsche Oper Berlin. Together, choreography, camera, piano and voice make room for reflection—and let the power of dance express what words cannot.

Full Solo Coming soon!!!
