I found my own book on a real library shelf today. Cleo’s Super Ear. The one I wrote at 2am on my first mat leave, after she failed her hearing test.

I wanted her to see herself as the hero of her own story.

If your baby ever failed a hearing test too, comment CHECKLIST and I’ll send you the agencies, programs, and questions I wish someone handed me on day one. 💛

Nobody tells you what to do when your baby fails their hearing test.

I was on my first mat leave, scared and searching for answers.

So I wrote her a book. Because I wanted her to grow up knowing who she is before the world gets a chance to tell her otherwise. 💚

Now I'm on my second mat leave watching her carry that confidence with her every single day.

Vancouver eats worth checking out this week. Toddler came along for every one.

Viet Haus @viethaus.kb for the huge portions and the 24 hour bone broth. The beef rib pho was $22.50.

Prince Seafood Restaurant @princeseafoodrestaurant for dim sum. A classic. We went early for the 12% discount and it was packed before 11:30.

Desserts Artisanaux @desserts_artisanaux_official on Kingsway for Hong Kong style desserts with unique flavours. Around $9 each, and always busy.

And the winner was home. DIY hotpot with a deluxe sauce bar. Green onion, cilantro, peanut sauce, the works.

October in Vancouver means hotpot at home. restaurant hotpot is $50 a head these days, so we did our own spread instead.

DIY sauce bar, tons of ingredients, and meat from Hankook on kingsway (beef belly + pork belly, 4 big bags for $50).

One hotpot night turned into so many meals. save this for your next one 🍲

Took myself out for sushi. Brought a very small plus-one. 🍣

The aburi is melt in your mouth.

Mat leave is short. The places on your list don't have to wait for "someday."

Vancouver eats worth checking out this week, baby came along.

Pai Pai @paipaigroupy for the chicken cutlet noodle soup, $16 gets you a huge cutlet, soup, egg, toast and a drink. Genuinely the most food for the price this week.

Minami in Yaletown - @minamiyaletown $9 happy hour aburi special, all 3 pieces were so good.

Excellent Tofu in Richmond for the classic tofu dessert, added black sesame and grass jelly on top.

Body Energy Club @bodyenergyclub smoothies keep me full for hours, tried the Hailey Bieber dupe strawberry one, v good!

B49 usually has a line out their takeout window, their specialty cream cheese bagel screams at you in the best way. Also got a dalgona matcha iced latte on the side.

China, 2020...borders about to close. We made the call to get home before we couldn't.

That trip was supposed to give me the confidence to change my whole life.

When it got cancelled, I changed it anyway. New degree, industry, and city. Moved to Vancouver hopeful, excited, and also wondering what could go wrong.

It worked out - not in the way I pictured, and not without hard days. But my foundation is steadier now and so is my trust in myself.

I used to think adventure was about how far you could travel. Now I think it's about how much change you can hold.

Looking back, I'm proud of how much we've managed to handle. What's a hard thing you're proud of getting through?

Your kid's next bday party, but make it glow ✨

Glowplay in Coquitlam is an indoor playground where everything glows. basically a rave for kids 🪩

We came for a birthday party and the setup is good. you get your own party room with a private entrance, and the kids get to access the whole play area.

The catch? the play area is shared with everyone, so it gets busy with bigger kids. if your little one is 3 or under, stay close.

5 Vancouver eats worth the trip this week

Kook Korean BBQ @kookbbq - premium cuts and all the banchan we could handle.

Red Wasabi in Yaletown @redwasabi_yvr was the lunch reset. Fresh and light with a free soup.

MeetRice Noodle @meetricenoodlebc just opened a new spot on Kingsway, they do Yunnan-style crossing-the-bridge noodles, the broth comes out piping hot with free noodle refills and hits exactly right on a grey Vancouver day.

Royal Palace on Hastings was packed for Mid-Autumn Festival - Peking duck and tender marinated beef.

Le Parfait in Yaletown @leparfait.ca for ashta ice cream. Delicious mid day treat.

5 things I do every single day because my daughter has hearing loss in one ear.

Watch for listening fatigue, count her words, notice which side she's listening from, move to her hearing side without thinking twice.

Small stuff nobody else sees unless they're living it too.
