The dawn of another year draws near, and we find ourselves looking back with gratitude.

Founded in 2007, Kim Lambert Design has had the opportunity to work with and be inspired by so many wonderful people, and to become an established boutique full-service interior design studio, specializing in highly customized, curated spaces within primarily (but not exclusively) residential properties.

With a background in commercial and hospitality design for luxury brands across the globe, Principal & Creative Director Kim Lambert is ever-passionate about the storyline, the vibe, the details and continuously draws inspiration from the world she surrounds herself in – specifically art, architecture, fashion and, most often, the beauty of nature. Her firm’s residential work has been published in coffee table books and magazines from North America to the Netherlands.

With an affinity for contemporary compositions, Kim Lambert Design endeavors to create interiors that are timeless with quiet sophistication, refined yet soulful, considered yet inviting.

Curiosity, travels and dialogues through collaboration inform the interior narratives Kim and her design team create, while leaving room for opportunities and, of course, the unexpected.

Thank you to all who have entrusted us with the privilege of elevating your home, cottage or weekend retreat and to all we have collaborated with to realize our visions. And thank you to those who have followed along as we share captures of recently completed work, as well as work-in-progress. A real privilege to be included in Young Visionaries: A New Generation of Interior Designers, a beautifully considered coffee table book spotlighting 45 designers and architects from around the world who are, in the words of the publisher, “reshaping the spaces we live in with bold imagination, cultural awareness, and a deep reverence for craft.”

Muskoka, in progress.

We recently returned to a lakeside property we have been shaping over the past five years. This latest chapter turns to the outbuildings - a guest house, pool house, gym and yoga studio - each conceived as part of the larger landscape.

The architectural layer is nearing completion - from the guest house ensuite and bedroom to the custom millwork of the pool house kitchenette. Next comes the decorative layer: furnishings, textiles, art and a series of outdoor living spaces surrounding the infinity pool and fireplace.

Throughout the property, the landscape provides its own direction. Weathered granite, deep moss, shifting greens and sculptural forms found in nature will inform the palette and character of what comes next.

A glimpse of where it stands - and where it’s going.

A room can be beautifully composed, but it is lighting that gives it atmosphere.

Decorative lighting is never simply a finishing layer in our work. It is integral to the composition - shaping rhythm, drawing focus and creating intimacy throughout a home.

A glimpse of this week’s installation at one of our residential projects, where each light has been considered in relation to the interior architecture, materiality and surrounding sightlines.

The light is what we see. The atmosphere is what remains.

Six hours into the mountains near Canmore, Alberta, surrounded by friends - and views that seemed to become more extraordinary with every turn.

The scale, the silence, the shifting light. Stone, water and weather shaping the landscape over time.

Experiences like this take me somewhere else creatively. They find their way into the spaces I imagine, the furniture I design, and the materials, forms and contrasts I’m continually drawn to.

Perspective, in every sense.

Taking shape near Calgary.

Four days on site, walking the project at full scale and studying the relationships that drawings can only begin to describe - volume, proportion, movement, and the precise framing of views beyond.

The material story will come next. For now, the architecture is beginning to speak for itself.

Kim Lambert Furniture Launch with Hollace Cluny

The Willow Collection, created by Kim Lambert in collaboration with Hollace Cluny, marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter - an opportunity to explore design at a more intimate scale.

Furniture design is, in many ways, a more personal exercise than the design of interiors: an exploration of proportion, materiality, and detail, where every curve, junction, and finish carries meaning. The Horizon Tables, Hug Console, and Hug Nightstands are a natural extension of the design language Lambert has cultivated throughout her body of work.

Rooted in her interpretation of the juxtaposition between the sensuality of Art Nouveau and the boldness and honesty of Brutalism, the collection seeks a balance between softness and strength, restraint and expression.

Willow is only the beginning. New tables, seating, mirrors, and objects are already in development, many of which will soon appear within the studio's current projects, woven into the broader narrative of the spaces Kim Lambert creates.

This collection marks the start of an evolving body of work, one that extends beyond interiors and into the realm of objects, craftsmanship, and form. by @kimlambertdesign

The Republic of Rathnelly

Set within Toronto's Republic of Rathnelly - a neighbourhood defined by its eclectic collection of century-old homes - this residence draws inspiration from its owners' appreciation of Japanese aesthetics and their travels throughout Asia. Smoked oak, patinated metal, deeply veined brown-grey marble, and wide-plank oak floors create a dark, atmospheric palette that feels both calm and inviting.

The millwork language, established in the kitchen and carried throughout the home, unifies each space, while lighting from Allied Maker and Lindsey Adelman lends warmth and sculptural presence throughout.

Designed for a young family of four, the home balances mood and serenity, sophistication and ease, serving as a quiet backdrop for the family's art collection. Hidden behind the lower-level millwork and concealed by the pool cue storage, a speakeasy unfolds as an unexpected retreat, where evenings stretch long and friends inevitably gather. by @kimlambertdesign
