2019. Artists do not have a duty to talk about politics. We have a duty to make art. But every now and then one of us is actually spot on the mark, even though, at the time, people told us we were just making trouble.

Once upon a time, a wealthy landlady's daughter told me that this painting of a dark-skinned child with an ancient Latin law book, looks "like a terrorist" and that I had to remove it from her sight. She didn't even live there.
Privilege means demonising people who inconvenience you. Not ever having to see anything that upsets your righteous indignation. But people who are sad, angry and abused are no longer required smile nicely for your amusement and comfort.
Now we stand strong. Now we know our values and live according to them. We will not turn away from our own sanity for temporary safety. by @kimmobey

Considering the quality of all the longlisted works, I am very privileged to be among them.

oil sketch on board for a pair of larger canvases. This little guy (Charaxes brutus) was soaked from a storm on Table Mountain. I brought him inside for shelter and to dry off, and he flew away when the sun came out. The second sketch (starting today) will be of him all dry and ready to fly again by @kimmobey

A body of work based on photos taken over the course of 15 years. These are moments of biography and beauty in the midst of transition and heartbreak.

Another tiny study for the series. This time of new and old life in 2021. This piece is about 15 x 10cm in oil on canvas.
The big canvasses (canvii) for the final works are in progress. For once there is no rush.

"WHY SHOULD I" ?????
😂🤭
This grumpy lil dude is an open edition until the mould breaks. I love him dearly and I'll be making a grumpy lady, a toddler and probably a cat too.
Are they based on real people? Absolutely. Is one of them me? Absolutely.

Available as an open edition in resin and a limited edition bronze
