Today marks two years since learning I have stage 4 triple negative breast cancer. While my journey hasn’t been easy at any point, it’s often been wonderful and beautiful. I am grateful. I’m lucky. I’ve made it a point not to let a diagnosis stop me from living life fully and brightly. My advice? Take the trip. Call your friends. Laugh loud. Give the biggest hugs. Be so present with your happy kid you forget about a bad scan. Cheer on everyone around you. Have absolutely normal, banal days. Go on fun dates. Deal with the illness when you must, and give yourself grace to feel every feeling. Be kind to your body when it needs rest. When you’re done being sad, you will remember how magical it is to be anything at all. Life is so fragile and gorgeous.

To my incredible support system- Bryce, Maxwell, my family, friends, Thunderbird family, TNBC friends, internet friends- I am always grateful and am thinking about you all extra today. My heart has grown ten sizes (not in an unhealthy way!) from the outpouring of love that still comes our way every day.

One last note, I’m about to start my fourth line of treatment, and could use all your good energy sent my way!

Buckle up, it’s a bumpy ride!

After about six months, we’ve discovered my current cancer treatment line (Enhertu and Keytruda) is no longer working. Yesterday was my last infusion, now we are moving on to what’s next.

Felt all the feels early in the week. With stage 4, you always want to stay on a treatment line as long as possible. Six months felt a little short and I had just figured out a pattern of life that worked for our family. Now we are tossing everything in the air again, but I’m remaining hopeful and positive as best I can. I’ll always be on some sort of treatment until they find a cure for cancer (they will). For now, I am gathering all the knowledge I can from my extensive and wonderful care team to prepare for what’s next.

Antelope Valley Magic, 8x10 inches, acrylic on wood panel.

This piece made me nostalgic for the couple of years I lived in the vast, quiet spaces of the Antelope Valley. Nothing beat those night skies, and seeing the resilience and beauty of the desert landscape still inspires me.

This new painting is in a group show curated by @thinkspace_art at @moahcedar opening August 1! ‘Art Where We Are: Celebrating 10 Years of Antelope Valley Walls” is up through November 15, and will have a reception during the festival on October 17 as well. More info on the flyer on slide 2.

I’ve participated in Antelope Valley Walls mural festival twice alongside many talented artists (many of whom are in the show!), and love how vibrant the streets have become. Cheers to ten years and to many more. ❤️🧡🩷💙

Just a girl painting her way through cancer to the cure. I truly believe we are close.

Thanks @matthewmorganphoto for such nice portraits documenting an incredible mural project with @cityofhopeoc at @lidomarinavillage. Thanks to @chrissyvim for lending a hand and also being the best sister in the universe. Thanks to @thisrepresents for doing the leg work and finding the quirkiest and cutest beachside hotel. Thanks to @reveilleinc @nettasmeks @stellavesper for organizing and for the snacks. Thanks to all the other artists that were a part of this monumental project.

I am grateful for any and all opportunities to spread a little lighthearted joy in a diagnosis that can be so heavy. 🩷 taken in Lido Marina Village by @kimsielbeck

Made a silly lil comic to take away the bleh of blob days that follow chemotherapy.

Every person’s side effects and recovery from cancer treatment are different, these are just mine right now! I’ll still take three blobby days every 21 days over having cancer. Fuck cancer! by @kimsielbeck

I’m trying to get back to a regular-ish sketchbook practice. It was nice to play with paint and color without a plan.

The Unknown: I’m in a “wait and see” pattern with my cancer treatment right now. My last PET scan showed some minimal growth, but this easily could’ve been inflammation from the immunotherapy we added. Luckily the cancer is still only in a few lymph nodes under my collar bone- no major organs or mass spread 🤞. We are rescanning in a few weeks after a couple more treatments. I’ve got 2nd and 3rd opinions scheduled in case we need to pivot to my next line or a clinical trial. Grateful for many more options and for the new breakthroughs happening all the time.

So many unknowns, so many feelings. Fuck cancer. But i am so, so hopeful that time is all this treatment needs to work and kick some cancer butt.

And who really knows what the future will bring? All we have is now. And today, right now, I feel great. I’ll keep celebrating my gorgeous life. I want you to celebrate yours, too 🩷 by @kimsielbeck

I had way too much fun working on The Splash Edition with @whogivesacraptp!

I worked on the box artwork (inside and outside!) as well as four out of twelve rolls. Each roll celebrates a place to swim and splash, like snorkeling in a coral reef, celebrating wetlands, deep sea diving, and secret swimming holes.

There are so many fun details on these. Be sure to grab a box while you can because they’re available for a limited time.

I loved working with the @whogivesacraptp team and also love seeing my work alongside the wonderful work of @aley.wild and @eleonoraarosio, who drew the other rolls in the pack.

The best part is the mission behind @whogivesacraptp. The paper is sustainable 100% bamboo, and 50% of profits are donated to help build toilets to help keep waterways clean. And they make fun, bright, packaging and celebrate illustration! @whogivesacraptp has been on my dream client list for a while and I’m so grateful for the opportunity!

Hope is a Rising Tide 💙

I had the absolute honor of working with City of Hope Orange County @cityofhopeoc to paint a mural in the parking garage at @lidomarinavillage alongside ten other amazing artists.

Moving through the parking garage, now a walking art exhibit, each level highlights a different part of cancer innovation and treatment. My floor shone a spotlight on humanity rising. It’s a reminder that no one moves forward alone, and to lean on your family, friends, and support groups in whatever way you need.

This project was deeply personal to me. I myself am a cancer patient at City of Hope, and am grateful for their outstanding care and research.

Reflecting on the amount of love and support I’ve received on my journey was emotional. I am so lucky to have never felt alone for a single step of my cancer diagnosis. This mural is dedicated to everyone who has shown up, and continues to show up, for me and my family. It was made even more special by the painting help of my sister @chrissyvim

Hope is the most important and beautiful thing we have. It’s everything. 🩷
