Also, thank you to the amazing people at CFDA who persisted despite me missing the initial emails because I was travelling. Since the Saint Laurent Scholarship wasn’t publicly announced, I was convinced it was a prank XD

Kineri Shah, a New York–based designer studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology, brings generational craft into a sharply contemporary fashion context with this sculptural top inspired by Sanjhi, the Indian paper-cutting art form practiced in her family. Marked, cut into fine strips, and woven directly on the dress form, the piece is made entirely from diamond lambskin leather, lined with silk organza, and finished with hand-stitching throughout. Alongside the final look, Shah also shares frames made by her grandmother that informed the work’s development, offering a deeper look at the lineage, process, and handwork behind the piece.
