Blizzard has officially revealed a new StarCraft game at BlizzCon 2026, giving fans their first look through a cinematic titled "Dominion," centered on the Terran Dominion and its war against the Zerg. The roughly three-minute sequence follows a Terran marine through training, gearing up, and deployment — closing on the recovered armor of a fallen soldier, waiting for the next recruit to fill it.

But this comeback comes with a major twist. Instead of returning as a traditional real-time strategy game, StarCraft is taking the series in a completely new direction as an open-world shooter, set roughly 70 years after Legacy of the Void. The project is being led by Dan Hay, the former Far Cry executive producer who joined Blizzard in 2022 — one of the most unexpected directions Blizzard could take with the franchise.

After years of speculation, Blizzard has confirmed it: Diablo V is real, and Sanctuary has already lost.

Revealed at BlizzCon 2026, Diablo V flips the franchise's usual setup on its head — instead of racing to stop Diablo, the story begins after the fall. Sanctuary has collapsed, its heroes have been defeated, and Diablo has already won. Players are being thrown into the aftermath of that loss rather than the buildup to it.

Blizzard is targeting a spring 2029 release, and made clear that Diablo 4 isn't going anywhere in the meantime — there are still stories planned for the current game before the studio's full attention shifts to Sanctuary's next chapter.
