Mil gracias por este honor @latinxhistoryproject
It’s been an honor and a privilege to be recognized for the work I have done and the work I am doing now in DC and beyond.

I’m incredibly grateful for this latest opportunity (since Pride!) to take on the role of Office Administrator @mocopridecenter and to have a workplace that not only sees me but values me, my skills, and my passion for making the world just a little better each day.

Y no se olviden de Puerto Rico!

They're no stranger to community action.✨

Meet Yadiel Meléndez (they/them/elle), also known as drag performer @kinggrickyyrosee, one of our 2026 Latinx-Hispanic LGBTQ+ Heritage Award honorees!

Long before the glitter beards and fabulous performances, Yadiel was already showing up for their community through advocacy and grassroots organizing.

From supporting suicide prevention efforts to leading conversations about anti-Blackness and equity in drag, Yadiel has used their voice to advocate for communities too often left behind.

They've also helped bring free harm reduction resources into DC drag spaces and used their platform to speak out at marches, rallies, and protests.

As the first Mx. DC Latinx Pride in 2018, Yadiel has continued to show us that drag is more than entertainment. It's also a powerful way to build community and fight for change.

Their work reminds us that everyone has a voice and the power to use it!

🧡 Join us October 10 to celebrate Yadiel and our 2026 honorees! RSVP at latinxhistoryproject.org/events.

I can never express the amount of joy I experienced being part of @washingtonspirit’s Pride match! Between being booked as a solo entity, my boss man at @mocopridecenter being recognized as the honorary captain that day, and the complimentary tickets we at the Pride Center were gifted meaning our community including my sister, BIL, and niece were able to witness and experience all this magic with me - there are no words to express how much this meant to me and will sit with me for the rest of my life, truly! taken in Audi Field by @kinggrickyyrosee

I constantly joke that if it weren’t for the T-Boi Juice™ I’d cry so much more these days – well! no jokes here! I’m ever grateful to share @washingtonspirit’s pitch with my boss man aka CEO of @mocopridecenter as well as so many other drag performers I’ve shared stages with for so many years. The cherry on top was playing my niece’s hero, even if just for a day! I’m ever grateful for what a magical day it was to see so many of my worlds collide like this.

A story in 3️⃣ parts

Last Sunday, so many of my worlds collided in the coolest and CUTEST of ways! @washingtonspirit reached out to me months ago for this year’s Pride Match and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity!

Fast forward to a couple weeks before the match, I find out boss man aka @mocopridecenter’s CEO, @phillipalexanderdownie is being honored in the pitch as the honorary captain for the match!

Furthermore, we at MoCo Pride Center were gifted complimentary tickets to bring our community with us for this momentous occasion, so my sister, BIL, and niece were able to join me for our first professional soccer match!

The moment above was while I was having photos taken at the meet & greet area and my family happened to arrive at that EXACT moment and my candid excitement and joy was captured SO magically. Thank you @sophiapricephotos 🥹
