Joe Ariwa & I Jah – Why Am I A Rastaman

A superb new relick of Culture’s classic Why Am I A Rastaman, with Joe Ariwa & I Jah paying respectful tribute to one of Joseph Hill’s most powerful cultural anthems.

Rather than trying to reinvent the original, this version stays true to its spirit. The timeless lyrics remain as relevant as ever, while the updated production brings fresh weight and clarity without losing the roots foundation that made the tune so enduring. I Jah delivers the vocal with conviction, carrying the message naturally over a solid modern roots riddim.

On the flip, the dub version gives the rhythm plenty of room to breathe, with deep bass, tasteful effects and that unmistakable Ariwa touch, making it a perfect companion to the vocal cut.

A respectful and well-executed reworking of a Culture classic, keeping Joseph Hill’s message alive for a new generation of listeners.

When I went to London - OCT25 (Part lll)

A few amazing days in London visiting some legendary music studios — and one very special stop was Ariwa Studios with my good friends @madprofessorariwa @joeariwa and @kingkamz ❤️

I was there mainly to service a few units, and I felt really honoured for that but I also took the chance to dive into something special. By a perfect audio-nerd coincidence, Neil owns an original Altec 9063B 🤯 — freshly serviced by @soundgasltd in 2022, who also happens to be our first UK dealer. Small world! 🔝

So I took the chance to measure the unit using our custom Savia software and capture its behaviour directly from the source ✨

Seeing — and measuring — such a legendary piece in the exact environment where it’s still making music felt pretty surreal 🎛️

Over the past months, those measurements helped us refine our work in @audio_merge PEQ63BA and better match the original Altec curves, while still allowing a wider gain range for our own approach. Slowly but surely, things started to click 🚀

Beyond the gear, it was just great studio time: stories, music, laughs, and that unmistakable Ariwa vibe 🙏🏽 Always inspiring to spend time at Ariwa — history, engineering, and reggae energy all in one room.
Thanks Neil for the hospitality, lessons, jerk chicken 🍗, inspiration (and for keeping these classics alive) 🙌🏽
