What an a honor to be back at the @boots.for.troops Concert in the Country!

Honestly, I’ve told the story at least 25 times and I’ll tell it I stop telling stories but @aaronwatsonmusic was the first artist I ever introduced on stage, in 2003-04, in Corpus Christi.

25 years later, my first stage introduction, since turning the page at the radio station, is none other than Aaron Watson.

Even further, for those following closely you know this is a Walk of Faith I’ve embarked on and wouldn’t you know it…I ended up leading the festival in prayer!

Welcome back to another edition of Friday Finds; this week we’re doing album reviews instead of singles because all of these albums moved me in different ways.

Swipe through to see how they measured up and my story about each one!

@parkermccollum has not only been shaping his golf game nicely; he’s been carving out some fantastic projects. “Live from Sound City” is a pure acoustic album that showcases Parker’s vocals.

Style, social presence, write ups, all cool but how does the voice sound? How does the art get digested? Parker has continually produced music that is easy and satisfying to digest.

The song you hear on this post “South of City Lights” is one of my favorites of his and this demonstration changed the way it landed, as a fan, it was a great 1/4 twist. “Diamonds and Gasoline” is a turnpike track that was nice to hear but all in all, this album felt like a victory lap.

It’s virtually a greatest hits album which makes me wonder about the next step. What’s up from here for Parker?

I saw @mirandalambert @reedsheppard3 and several others touting this album, as well. If you’re a Parker fan already, this one is like burnt ends in your favorite kitchen.

Next, @gavinadcockmusic just came in a dropped it on the table and said, “Eat all you can” because this album is fully stocked!

When I first met Gavin, I knew he knew he was different but the full scope was yet to be seen. Second time I saw him, he was fresh off several internet beef moments and a whole lot of Jack Daniels the night before…

There was a consistency through it all: his music was damn good.

This new album is almost a flex with how many great songs he fit into one project. It wasn’t too much and it wasn’t too little; it was just right for a fan to indulge and a naysayer to get convinced.

Almost all the tracks hang in a 75-80 bpm range which is consistent with gives him room to story tell, create a rhyme and make you want to dance about it.

You’re not going to get philosophical insight from Gavin but there’s no doubt he’s a factory of music begging to be heard and the songs seem to come easy. We know it’s not easy but tracks like “One Hell of a Steal” and “Shoes” show the var taken in Houston, Texas by @kingnickrusso

A couple of weeks ago, @mattstell put out a new single called, “Where I’ll Be” and I put it to the test this past weekend.

Here’s how it works: we get a very talented two step crowd at @rowdysspring so when I find a song that has the tempo they like, I give it a shot! Trust me, you play something not dance friendly, they’ll let you know with their absence.

You may think it’s “well that’s easy, every song should work.” But that’s just not the case. Because while yes, in theory, you can dance to any song; however, some music literally MOVES you. Those tend to be our favorites and the kind of music I like to distribute to anyone the Lord blesses me have for my audience.

Not only is “Where I’ll Be”danceable, it’s also, a really great song. 👏👏👏 by @kingnickrusso

I mean, it’s hard to argue that @brooksanddunn Neon Moon needs to not be played over the course of an evening in a dancehall, sometimes twice if the night is long enough.

I took this list from the last 5 months of Spring & Summer and I think it smacks! If you haven’t been to @rowdysspring on a Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night, you gotta come check it out!

The next slide is the top 25 line dances 👀

Line dances have taken over the dancehall and I’m happy to hold the line for tradition. Here’s my thinking, the song has to be good and the majority of the room has to know how the steps, in order to qualify.

This is my chance to say thank you to all the dancers who come in to lead, help others learn, make friends and keep the energy at max. It’s so much fun helping to usher in this new era of dance in the dancehall. by @kingnickrusso

It’s Monday so we’re hitting the ground running! It wasn’t just Golf and Church this weekend. I got the ole motor running and headed West on 99 to Hockley to meet a new artist.

The road led me to @2920_roadhouse to meet a young man from Midfield, Texas named @colbyswiftofficial

His music is the traditional kind and being he’s from South Texas near the gulf coast I’d say that makes all the sense to me! I loved his 3:4 tune Old Hank Song and his new one reminds me of a bunch of people I know, it’s called “Honky Tonker” written by @thebobbywayne

It was great to chat creatively and enthusiastically about the country music space! taken in 2920 Roadhouse by @kingnickrusso

Yesterday, I felt like it was a constant dream-state at @thepinestexas

God works in mysterious ways but try to follow this story as to how I ended up in the #1 ranked golf course in Texas: my buddy and real estate extraordinaire @andrestarizmendi set up and impromptu golf round which ultimately blessed me with the chance to fill an opening!

The course was immaculate: the greens were unblemished, true as the Gospel, fast as a jet liner, luxuriously carpeted fairways, pines that whispered sweet nothings and temps that mimicked paradise.

I’m so grateful; I shot an 88; 100% fairways. A day was had. taken in Whispering Pines Golf Club by @kingnickrusso

We’re back! Now, if reading isn’t something you’re into, keep scrolling!

I spent the morning going through the week’s single releases that appeared on @countrycentral page and my favorites are on the following slides!

@laineywilson has been a staple of country music for the last 6 years, we’ve seen her life flourish with marriage and awards but this is where the real test of musical legacy begins; Lainey confronts all of it head on in this single, “Kinda Love It.”

If anyone was worried that somehow she lost her passion, enthusiasm or charm for what got her to the dance, this song removes that doubt. There’s the classic sign of songwriting genius with the callback to “Heart Like a Truck” in the hook and the authenticity bleeds through as she penned the track with @johnmayer Kid Harpoon and Jon Decious.

This new track from @parkermccollum and @randyrogersband is called, “Tommy Jackson” and it premieres on the eve of my first time playing Whispering Pines golf club so clearly God has a plan.

I’ve asked Parker about a lot of his music over the years and one thing that’s become a hallmark has been his novel way of songwriting. He can create a character like an author of a book would but he writes the song of that person so well you think he’s real!

That’s the kind of songwriting and vocal ability that has got him to the dance but this also marks a new partnership between @bigloudtexas and RRB.

Tommy Jackson is a two step tune that tells the story of a fugitive, empowered by a firearm and free will. It’s a song about life changing choices but really just hits me like another movie scene from the mind of Parker where Randy fills in the color to a McCollum style frame.

It’ll get play in the dancehall at @rowdysspring and is just another great record from a couple of Texas best.

I gave the feature song to @thechrisjanson because it’s called “Fun” and that’s exactly what the song sprays like a tractor sprinkler in the front yard. From the first drum beat to the first words 5 seconds in; the track moves like it’s a short fuse bottle rocket.

I’ve spent enough time with Chris Janson to know that writing simple songs that bang for people who want something to taken in Houston, Texas by @kingnickrusso
