🚨 NEW JPD PUBLICATION 🚨

Proud to share our latest paper now published in 🦷 The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry (JPD) 📚
Led by my PhD student Dr Arwa Al-Husban @arwaalhusban 👏🎓

🧠 The challenge:
How can we enhance maxillary denture retention in a way that is biological, passive, and clinically relevant?

🐙 The inspiration:
Nature’s own solution — octopus suction cups.

🖨️ What we did:
• Designed bio-inspired suction and negative suction micro-topographies
• Integrated them into 3D-printed maxillary dentures
• Tested them using a clinically realistic in-vitro model
✔️ Peripheral seal
✔️ Preload
✔️ Artificial saliva

📊 Key findings:
🔥 Simulating the peripheral seal significantly increases denture retention
🔥 Peripheral designs outperform palatal designs
🔥 Negative suction cup geometries deliver the highest retention among bio-inspired surfaces
🔥 Retention improves without chemical aids

🚀 Why this matters:
This work advances denture design beyond surface smoothness and moves toward smart, bio-inspired architectures that enhance stability through geometry, physics, and biology.

Incredibly proud of Arwa for leading this work from concept to JPD publication 💥
A fantastic example of how science, design, and clinical prosthodontics come together.

Nature inspires.
Design delivers.
Clinical relevance wins.
