Days spent in the water (preferably at the beach) are what I prefer . SD beaches are close for this desert native so I take advantage when I can . My kiddos must join in the ride with me . The Pacific Beach Half , my final half for the year. It felt like the ending of a chapter and it with a great run. 1:51 half marathon , a time that I haven’t reached in a long time. 3 min shy of my best half time. I’m excited to feel healthy and that my body felt good at the end . I’m feeling great. The best way to end that run was by jumping in the ocean. by @kiosanders

Congrats to My brother @nomad68damon on his retirement. We started our careers with Gila River Fire around the same time 20 years ago. We both take pride in taking care of our community and providing our service to the people we care about. He has been serving GRIC as a master mechanic and taking care of the GRFD fleet and training all us Firefighters in proper maintenance of these trucks. Sometimes these trucks break down on the side of the road or at the scene of an emergency in the middle of the night. No matter the hour, he and his team respond and get us back on the road. Thank you for your dedication and service brother . Congratulations on your retirement. by @kiosanders

Year 43 reflections. I completed some major milestones and established new goals along the way. The last decade has been filled with many twists, surprises, and plenty of adventure. I feel I definitely have reached a new chapter in my life. My kids are nearly all adults and starting their own journeys. I’m 20 years deep into my career and I still have plenty of energy. Heck I’m running fast again, I never would’ve thought it would be possible. My family has supported me all these years in spite of my innate ability to isolate myself. I’m very thankful for them. My father would be proud. The opportunities at the moment feel boundless. The new chapters await. by @kiosanders

Continuing my celebratory month, I journeyed back to NY for Hyrox and to visit with friends. Can’t beat the experience. Had a great time, became a pro with transit system and now possess a good lay of the land. Visited Rucker Park, watched a Mets game and made it to Madison Square Garden. Most importantly I completed the goal I set out to do months ago which was to beat a 1:30 time for solo Hyrox. More challenges to come , more goals to complete this year taken in Manhattan, New York by @kiosanders

What a blessing to have the opportunity to travel and celebrate friends and my graduation. Rio de Janeiro is a place I would love to come back to and possibly live . Masters in Emergency Management and Homeland Security completed. Thank you everyone that roughed out the last few years with me. Lord knows it hasn’t been easy. If you were a part of it , you know I’m glad that you were there. I’ve experienced lots of changes over the years but I feel very well equipped for the future. These achievements captured in the fire academy, engineer, captain, medic, father, HM tech, Bachelors, Masters, have all challenged me . Only God knows what’s next. I’m glad to continue to be an example for my family the way that my parents and family are examples to me. Extrication is a reality of our job and over the course of the years I have become pretty proficient with these skills. I have been fortunate enough to be able to learn from others and glean from their knowledge. I love my career and hope to share with others my lessons learned one day. by @kiosanders

What an exciting event . Months of prep and endless Hyrox reels paid off. There were moments of exhaustion and challenge but challenge is always good for us. I think we did well for our first Hyrox event. I guess there’s some benefit to dragging and pulling that tire around the station, it made light work of the sled events. I’m thankful for the cheer crowds from family, friends and @otf_goodyear. I’m coming back to this event , but at which location ? Thanks @leevon_price_ for the invite , you did really well as usual. by @kiosanders

Been a busy year for family travels with flights. San Diego, Boston and New York. I didn’t have these experiences until I was in late 30s. Trying to share the experience with the ones I love and hopefully inspire them to explore beyond the desert . New York , would I come back , absolutely. However the winter time can be skipped.
