Hi, I'm Lee 👋 I'm a music lover with a rather eclectic collection, from Idles to Shirley Bassey! 🇬🇧
Just here to share a few of them with you.✌️❤️
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It’s time for another #soundtracksunday pop pickers! Hosted by the fantastic @soundtracksunday

This week's installment takes us back to 1965 with The Beatles and their fifth studio album, and the soundtrack to their second movie, Help!

Help! is The Beatles’ second film, a madcap adventure where a cult tries to sacrifice Ringo after he ends up with their sacred ring stuck on his finger. Cue the band legging it across London, the Alps and the Bahamas, dodging villains at every turn, all while performing some cracking tunes. Pure ‘60s chaos, full of daft humour and great music.

The album features seven songs used in the movie:

Help!
You're Going to Lose That Girl
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
Ticket to Ride
I Need You
The Night Before
Another Girl

It’s the album that paved the way for the legendary Rubber Soul later that year. The songwriting had matured drastically, with tracks like the phenomenal Yesterday, written by Paul McCartney at just 22, and the experimentation kicked in with Ringo’s unusual drum pattern on Ticket to Ride.

My copy is really special to me, it was my mum's. If you've followed me for a while and read my waffle, you might know that I lost my mum last year. Today would have been her 63rd birthday. Happy heavenly birthday, Mum.

(Not an easy day, so I’ll keep that short.)

Mum gave me her records years ago when I really started collecting. When we pulled out Help!, she was absolutely gutted to see she’d put her name on the cover in stickers as a kid to stop her siblings from "claiming" it. She thought she'd ruined it and went to steam them off, but I said, Absolutely not, it’s perfect as it is!

I’m so glad I did, it means even more now that I don’t have her here anymore.

The guitar pictured is my classic denim Epiphone. Last year, my mum wanted so badly to get it for me before she passed, but she didn’t manage it. Bless my sister and her family, who worked tirelessly to find one so I had it to open on my first birthday without Mum. Again... Very very special ❤️

Music truly is a healer, it’s the greatest comfort, cathartic, and if you get it, well, you get it!

Today we're celebrating ten years of The Libertines' brilliant third studio album 'Anthems For Doomed Youth'. Released via Virgin records on 11th September 2015.

This was the band's first album since their self-titled 2004 sophomore album, where due to fallouts, burglaries, arrests and drug addiction, the band disbanded. Peter Doherty focusing on Babyshambles, Carl Barat and drummer Gary Powell forming Dirty Pretty Things, and bassist John Hassall forming Yeti.

I've not listened to this one in a good while, and I half forgot just how great it is. Their 2002 debut Up The Bracket painted a poetic and romantic picture of the Arcadian dream they longed for. Their 2004 sophomore tackled the breakdown of the band, with Peter and Carl firing shots at eachother throughout. Their 2015 return? Well it's like they were ready to sit down in therapy and talk about what went wrong and where they were at as a band.  From security guards and minders keeping them apart to running a hotel together in Margate.

Only The Libertines! 😂

Without feeling like the wheels could come off at any moment, It's still got all the aspects of the band we loved in the early 00s. Distorted, rough around the edges on tracks like Fame and Fortune and Heart of The Matter. The beautiful poetic side with the ballad, You're My Waterloo, a lesser known early track from the band that was re-recorded for the album and now a fan favourite and staple in the live sets.

There's the reflective and open Anthem for Doomed Youth and the albums lead single and biggest hit Gunga Din. The album was written and recorded in Thailand at Karma Sound Studios as Peter went through rehab, it's an open book with the boys in the band working through it and I love them for it.

My personal favourite on the album is The Milkman's Horse where Carl snarls..

"What you've done, get out of my dreams you scum! They weren't meant for anyone but me"

A great album and it was a triumphant return! Here's to ten years of Anthems For Doomed Youth and hopefully many more years of The Libertines. Are you a fan? Let me know in the comments below if you think the Albion sailed on course with this one?

Happy spinning ✌️❤️🎶 by @kip.records

#nowspinning an absolute classic, a complete game changer and one of my favourite albums growing up. This is N.W.A and their debut Straight Outta Compton.

Formed in Compton in early 1987 by Dr Dre and Eazy E, they first recruited Ice Cube, then DJ Yella and Arabian Prince. MC Ren joined just before the album dropped in 1988, completing the iconic line up.

The birth of gangsta rap? Not quite. On the East Coast there was Schoolly D, Just Ice and Mob Style. On the West, Toddy Tee dropped Batterram in 1985, and Ice T followed with Killers and 6 in the Mornin’ in 1986. However, N.W.A were the group that brought it to the masses and changed everything that followed.

With beats built from funk and soul samples by Charles Wright, James Brown, Funkadelic and The Winstons. Straight Outta Compton delivered raw, aggressive and unapologetic anthems like Dopeman, Gangsta Gangsta, If It Ain’t Ruff, Express Yourself, and of course F Tha Police. Which was so bold the FBI sent a warning letter telling them not to perform it live. They did anyway 😎👌.

Critics said they were inciting violence, but really they were reporting on the environment around them. Giving a voice to the streets of Compton when nobody else would.

The album went platinum, became the first gangsta rap record to do so, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016. Despite all the success, the group was short lived. Ice Cube left in 1989 over royalty disputes, Dre followed in 1991 to start Death Row, and in 1995 Eazy E sadly passed away from complications related to AIDS, aged just 30, meaning a full reunion will sadly never happen.

I'll finish on something silly! Years ago I was DJing at a dive bar when a fight broke out. I killed the music and told them to pack it in. Police arrived within a minute and looked just as embarrassed as the lads scrapping. (These guys really couldn't fight)

As they cuffed them and led them out, I dropped F Tha Police and the coppers danced their way out the bar!

Fair play lads..fair play 😂👌

Are you a fan of Straight Outta Compton? What’s your favourite track? Drop me a line in the comments below and happy spinning, folks ✌️❤️🎶 by @kip.records

The weekend is here and that means it's time for another awesome #fridaymusicchallenge 🎶

This week, our host is the wonderful @johnsvinyl_cork_irl and the theme is "Your favourite find from a record fair or flea market".

No sitting around scratching chins on this one, I knew what it was instantly!

A few years back I was on my way to the pub to have a few beers with my dad. On the walk down I spotted a charity shop and couldn't resist having a quick look. I rarely find anything in charity shops these days, but you just never know. You've got to be in it to win it and all that!

Well, that day I absolutely won it.

The first thing I saw at the front of the crate was this beautiful The Golden Sound of Motown box set. I slowly pulled it out and the box was in fantastic condition. As I opened it, the eight records inside were in even better condition. It was almost as if nobody had touched them in over 40 years. Not a scuff on the corners, not a ciggy stain on the pristine white back cover. I couldn't believe my luck.

In all the Motown-fuelled excitement, I hadn't noticed that directly behind it was an equally beautiful copy of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac in equally fantastic condition. I'd absolutely hit the jackpot!

So I made my way to the till, not knowing what this box set would cost, and the lady said:

"Records are a pound each, so that'll be £2 please, sir!"

I couldn't believe it as I walked down to the pub with all this brilliance under my arm for £2. To be honest, I actually started to feel a bit guilty because there was no way that price felt right, so the following weekend I went back in, bought a terrible compilation LP just to get to the till and dropped a tenner in the donation pot 😎👊

This wonderful box set takes you right through the Motown story. From The Supremes and Stevie Wonder, through to The Jackson 5, and on to those late 70s funk and disco belters from the likes of Rick James. A huge thanks to John for hosting and to everyone at the Friday Music Challenge.

I'm #nowspinning the phenomenal Angine de Poitrine and their debut album 'Vol. 1'. 🤯🎶

This mostly instrumental gem was originally released independently on 14th June 2024. As this bizarre and wonderful Canadian duo became growing viral sensations, the album was reissued this year via Spectacles Bonzaï here in the UK, which is the version I've picked up.

It wasn't until I sat down to write something about these guys today that I realised I know pretty much nothing about them. To be honest, it's all very mysterious and that's a rare thing in this modern world, so that's how I'd like it to stay! 😂

What I do know is that this record has a wonderful way of completely changing my mood. I was extremely stroppy yesterday, so I stuck this on and I laid back on my bed and let the music do its thing. By the end of side one, I was loving life again! ❤️🎶

So, if you haven't heard this one and love weird and wacky rock, experimentation and absolutely mental masks, GIVE THIS A BLAST! 👊

A shout out to my brother in law, Mikey for turning me on to these guys a couple of years back with a live clip on YouTube.

I think when it finished, I just said, "Well, that's mental... I'm in!"

So, what album gets you out of a slump? Let me know in the comments below ✌️❤️🎶

The weekend is upon us, so that means it's time to speed things up on our turntables from 33 to 45 with the fabulous @marcotossa and #fortyfivefriday! 😎👊

This week, I'm heading back to 1985 and I'm #nowspinning Bruce Springsteen's massive hit single 'Glory Days'. 🎶

This rocking classic was inspired by a real life meeting Bruce had with former Little League teammate Joe DePugh, who is referenced in the song's opening verse. Recorded at The Power Station in New York City, 'Glory Days' became the fifth single released from the hugely successful 'Born in the U.S.A.' album.

The single reached No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart.

Over on the flip side, we get the rocking and rolling 'Stand On It', recorded during the 'Born in the U.S.A.' sessions but left off the final album, making it a proper B side. Bruce later gave the song to country singer Mel McDaniel, who took it into the US Country Top 20 in 1986.

I picked this one up in my favourite local record shop over the summer for, I think, 50p. Considering the fantastic condition of both the sleeve and the record more than forty years after its original UK release, I'd call that an absolute bargain! 👊

One of my favourite tracks by The Boss and a belter to throw on and kick off the weekend. What's your favourite Bruce Springsteen track? Let me know in the comments below and have a fantastic weekend. 😁👇👇

🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

KIP Fact: Did you know 'Born in the U.S.A.' produced seven US Top 10 singles, matching the record previously set by Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'?

'Glory Days' was the fifth of those seven hits.

KNEBWORTH, ARE YA MAD FER IT??

We only went and ruddy done it! Two front standing tickets to see Oasis at Knebworth next September. Several days on I'm still in shock! 😁

Firstly, congratulations if you landed them, and hugs to the fans who missed out. I missed out in '25 and it was brutal!

Keep the faith though, I think Twickets and Ticketmaster resales will be good to everyone this time as we get closer! ✌️

Well, I nearly blew this one as I was insistent on front standing and I kept getting kicked out at the checkout. Every time I queued for another night, pickings got slimmer and slimmer until general admission started blacking out. That's when I panicked and hit that front standing tickets/coach package.

It was bloody expensive and I didn't even know what a Zone A Coach meant, but I got them. We might be going to Reading the night beforehand 😂👊

Being at the front means a lot to me. When I first saw Oasis in '05 at Milton Keynes Bowl, I went with my best pal, my folks, sister and her husband.

I was 18 and it was my first gig of this scale. As soon as we got through the gates, me and my pal said SEE YA and charged our way to the second barrier. It took us about half an hour to get there, but we did it. It was about 2 in the afternoon and we were on the barrier.

As we were holding on to the barrier, I saw my folks casually walking through the golden circle in front of us. My dad, armed with pints in his hands and a gold wristband on his arm, shouted over the barrier, "you've f****d this one up, son" 😂

In that moment it felt like the world had ended, but then my mum slowly pulled out two extra golden wristbands from her pocket and waved them at us. It took us half an hour to get to that barrier but about 20 seconds to get out 😂

I'll never forget the volume when 'F***in' in the Bushes' kicked in at the start. It really was a dream come true.

So, I got to see Oasis with my folks at the front. Memories that are etched in my mind forever, and now my mum isn't here anymore, it just means something different entirely and it had to be the front!

What song are you hoping to hear next year in the set? Let me know in the comments below 👇

Kicking off the weekend and bringing two of my favourite Instagram themes together!

So, let’s speed things up from 33 to 45 and join the wonderful @marcotossa with #fortyfivefriday, while saying hello to our good friends at the Friday Music Challenge, with our fantastic host @friday_vinyl 👏👏🎶

Today’s theme is 'Only EPs Count' and it didn’t take me too long to decide which one I wanted to share today. It had to be my first pressing of CMAT’s 'Diet Baby'.

Released independently on 26th March 2021, 'Diet Baby' features four tracks showcasing some of our Dunboyne Diana’s earliest work.

'Diet Baby' kicks off with 'Another Day (KFC Song)', a brilliant pop number where CMAT gets dumped and heads to KFC to cheer herself up, doubles down on chicken for moral support and now has no bus fare home. Not only is it an absolute earworm, it’s exceptionally written, with CMAT’s trademark dry wit and humour.

We then go into one of my favourites, 'Rodney', which is also one of CMAT’s favourites. It sounds like a table in an old cafe is being used for percussion and it’s brilliant!

Side B kicks off with the now iconic 'I Wanna Be a Cowboy, Baby', featuring an anthemic chorus and brilliant lyrics such as:

"I feel bad ’cause I didn’t cry when someone I grew up with died, but I break down every time I’m on the scales"

We close the EP with fan favourite 'I Don’t Really Care For You', a beautiful way to round it off! ❤️

It’s been an absolute pleasure being a fan of CMAT since her first EP. From seeing her downstairs in a pub in Bristol years ago to watching her win an Ivor Novello for Best Album with 'Eurocountry'. What a journey!

This first pressing was so early that CMAT personally inscribed 'I hate diets and I hate babies' on the run out of the record, making it an extra special one in my collection! 🥰

Well, with Nirvana’s era defining second studio album 'Nevermind' turning 35 today, it could only be one post today, right?

Well, not quite!

Before we get into this masterpiece, let’s talk about one of the craziest 48 hours in music history. Nirvana released this game changing album, Red Hot Chili Peppers dropped 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik', Primal Scream gave us 'Screamadelica', and A Tribe Called Quest released 'The Low End Theory'.

All within the 23rd and 24th September 1991.

There’s someone out there who woke up on Monday needing some new records, popped to the record shop, and went to bed on Tuesday with all four on their shelf. 🤣 It’s just incredible, so shout out to all these magnificent albums! 👊🎶❤️

So, onto 'Nevermind'. Released via DGC Records, it was Nirvana’s second studio album following 1989’s 'Bleach', and saw the addition of Dave Grohl on drums. His arrival was a major turning point.

With Dave on drums, Krist Novoselic on bass and Kurt Cobain up front, the album became one of the defining records of its era. Kurt’s songwriting was raw, melodic, vulnerable and could slap you in the face all at once. (See 'Something In The way' and 'Territorial Pissings' as examples)

Produced by Butch Vig, the sound was bigger, sharper, slightly more polished, but still pushed back against the excesses of 80s hair metal. The songs speak for themselves with  'Smells Like Teen Spirit', 'Come As You Are', 'Lithium', 'In Bloom'... It's just classic after classic.

Nirvana dragged alternative rock into the spotlight, with Kurt becoming a voice for a generation of kids crying out for something different, something less hairspray and MTV.

For me, as a kid, I was obsessed with British culture and the music that came with it. The Clash, The Jam, Oasis, Pulp.

Nirvana were the first American band I heard and thought, well, that’s just awesome, and they opened up so many musical doors for me. So, thanks Nirvana for dropping this masterpiece on the world and changing it all for me. ❤️

What’s your favourite track on this one? Do you like to jump about with Teen Spirit or roll around the floor with 'Endless, Nameless'? 🤣👌

Well, I’ve absolutely found a contender for my favourite album of 2026, with Brighton's indie alternative rock outfit Lime Garden, and their second studio album, 'Maybe Not Tonight'.

Lime Garden, originally known as LIME, formed in 2020 while studying in Brighton. The quartet features Chloe Howard on lead vocals and guitar, Leila Deeley on lead guitar, Tippi Morgan on bass and Annabel Whittle on drums and production.

Released on 10th April 2026 via independent label So Young Records, Maybe Not Tonight is the band’s follow up to their 2024 debut One More Thing. It’s a loose concept album that follows a chaotic night out, from the pre drinks to the taxi ride home.

It doesn’t happen often these days, but I ordered this album before I’d even made it halfway through my first listen. I shared it with a friend, and she said...

“It’s girly bops with a bit of edge.”

I think she summed this one up perfectly in one line. 😎👌

What I really love is how it takes you straight back to those indie disco nights in the 00s without ever feeling overly retro. You can practically feel your Converse sticking to the floor as this one spins.

The band have stated their influences pull from David Byrne, New Order, the Breeders and even Daft Punk. They’ve also been championed by NME, The Guardian and music icons like Johnny Marr and Hayley Williams.

Not a bad list if you ask me!

My absolute favourite tracks so far are 23, Cross My Heart, Body, and the first song I ever heard by them, Maybe Not Tonight. A special mention, too, for the Strokes esque Undressed.

Are you a fan of Lime Garden? Let me know in the comments below, and happy spinning, pop pickers. 🎶✌️

Wishing the one and only Liam Gallagher a very happy 54th birthday! 🎂🍻

To celebrate and honour the man today, I’ve been spinning Liam’s fantastic MTV Unplugged album.

Recorded on 3rd August 2019 at Hull City Hall and released on 12th June 2020, the live album shot straight in at number one on the UK chart and became the biggest selling vinyl album of 2020.

Liam chose the venue after his brother Noel referred to Hull as a “f***ing s*** hole” whilst on stage in Austin, Texas, back in 2018. Liam responded in the most Liam way possible by recording his own Unplugged session in Hull.

This is a lovely mix of Liam’s solo work and Oasis anthems. After Liam famously missed the Oasis MTV Unplugged back in 1996 due to a sore throat, he finally got to have his moment. One of my favourite parts of the show is when he dedicates the track Once to Oasis band mate Bonehead, who on stage with him in Hull got to do MTV Unplugged TWICE 🤣

His voice is on top form, the crowd are well and truly up for it, but it’s also stripped back, acoustic and wonderfully mellow.

Seems like the perfect opportunity to join @christinavinylphile and #mellowgoldmondays then 😉👌🎶

TRACKLISTING:

Happy birthday, Liam! And a massive thanks to our wonderful host, Christina 🙂👊

Now I just pray I get an email from Oasis next week to say I’ve got tickets to book! 😁 Are you a fan of this one, let me know in the comments below and happy spinning!

🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

KIP Fact: Did you know Liam’s MTV Unplugged was the first live album to hit number one on the UK album chart since George Michael’s 2014 release, Symphonica?

It’s been a hot minute since I dropped a #fortyfivefriday spin on you.

What a single to return with though, as we speed things up from 33 to 45 with our wonderful host @marcotossa and take it back to January 1979 with Blondie and the incredible Heart of Glass.

Partly inspired by electronic pioneers Kraftwerk and the disco classic Rock the Boat by The Hues Corporation, Heart of Glass blends new wave and disco and went on to become the band’s biggest hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and going straight in at number one on the UK chart.

The track actually started life back in 1974 as a loose reggae blues number called Once I Had a Love, before producer Mike Chapman pushed it into a more disco inspired direction. Lyrically, Debbie Harry wrote it as a reaction to female vocalists constantly being portrayed as victims in love songs. She wanted something that shrugged off betrayal rather than wallowed in it 👊

The band famously had a nightmare getting the drums right, eventually turning to the Roland CR 78 drum machine. Auto looping sync wasn’t a thing in 79, so they spent around ten hours manually synchronising the drum machine in real time. Debbie Harry loved the tension between human and machine, while Clem Burke never felt satisfied and thought it didn’t sound like a band.

On the flip side of this beauty we get the awesome Rifle Range, a new wave belter with a bluesy intro.

A fantastic single to kick off the weekend and one I’ll be dropping in my DJ set in a bit.

What are you spinning to start the weekend? Let me know in the comments below.

Right, thanks as always to the awesome Marco for hosting today. I’m off to grab my stuff and go do the DJ thing. There’s a ladies birthday party in the pub tonight, and these women go feral on a normal Friday, so wish me luck 🤣👌

🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

Kip Fact: Did you know Heart of Glass features a hidden time signature shift. The song grooves in standard 4 4, but there’s a brief middle section that weaves through a 7 8 feel before sliding back into the main beat.

Knowledge is Power ✌️❤️🎶
