Travelling from the UK back to New Zealand has given me hours alone with my thoughts. I hoped I could make sense of what has happened, but it still doesn’t feel real, and no words seem right.

To my freckle friend. My July sister. My soul sister.

There aren’t many people I’d fly half way around the world for, but you were one of them. I was in awe of you - kind and caring, funny and smart, an incredible baker, an amazing mum, always with an immaculate home, and the most beautiful person in every room. How could one person be so perfect in so many ways?

My heart aches remembering our time together, and for the future we’ll no longer share. I thought we’d grow old together - forever sharing music and clothes, reminiscing about festivals and Gotham toilets, with you baking me brownies and all my birthday cakes.

I hope wherever you are, it is filled with good music, white lillies and the cosiest hangover blanket. I hope you’re dancing in the kitchen to Born Slippy and working out (steep incline!) to Diesel Power. I hope there’s endless dry shampoo and you never lose your back-combing brush.

We didn’t even put up a tree last year so trying to get in the Christmas spirit!
