I am so thrilled to share that I have signed a two-book deal with UK publisher Bloodhound Books, represented by my agent Catherine Wallace of High Spot Literary.

I have always loved to write. Old school reports stated how I excelled in storytelling (and talking), but creative writing wasnโ€™t something I pursued seriously until much later in life, after focusing on my career, buying a house, moving countries, and having a family, so it comes as somewhat of a surreal moment to now be living out this long-held dream.

My first crime fiction, White Lies, will be published mid-2027 ๐Ÿ™Œ and I canโ€™t wait for you to read it!

I am so grateful to those who helped me along the way. My husband David Bedford for the support, space and time to write, and my boys for always believing in me.

I first dabbled in creative writing a decade ago on an Australian Writersโ€™ Centre creative writing course, where I met my first writing buddy Megan Bertram, who is still one of my dearest friends (and biggest supporters) today.

This book would not exist without the many, many writing sessions I did with Danielle Norton (eternally grateful to you, my friend), and later in our extended writing group with Carrie Hutchinson and Gwen Luscombe.

I have met many other wonderful writers on this journey, including the class of 2019 at the Faber Writing Academy (under the exceptional leadership of Toni Jordan and Paddy Oโ€™Reilly), and talented crime writer Andrea Barton during a Varuna residency, who has remained a firm friend.

My journey to publication would also not have happened without the exceptional manuscript assessment services of author of award-winning crime novel The Nancys (and multiple other works) Rob McDonald (the first person to read this manuscript), and from there, through the ASA literary speed dating, I met Catherine Wallace, and as they say, the rest is history.

I can not wait to share this journey with you. Author website coming soon!

Adelaide McLuckie is a fourth-generation hotelier at Kimโ€™s Beachside Retreat on the NSW Central Coast. Running for 140 years, it is the oldest continuously operating resort in Australia.

Tucked away on Toowoon Bay, Kim's has 36 beachside bungalows, a restaurant and cocktail bar at this adults-only escape just an hour north of Sydney. Adelaide tells us the region has exceptional whale watching, beautiful, secluded beaches and locals who are so laid back, even Albo, our prime minister, holidays here.

Emirates has celebrated 30 years since its first flight in Australia in a glamorous event at the State Library Victoria.

Emirates began flying from Melbourne in 1996, and now has 70 weekly services across five cities.

Emirates Divisional Vice President Australasia Barry Brown says, โ€œMelbourne is where our Australian story began, and it remains central to everything we do in this market.โ€

The airline employs more than 8,000 Australians, and has also invested more than AU$230 million in Australian sport, culture and community, including long-standing partnerships with the Australian Open and Collingwood Football Club, as well as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

* Career Highlight *

How lucky was I to be asked to moderate the crime panel at the @dandyrangeslitfest with three of Australiaโ€™s most awarded crime authors Chris Hammer, Vikki Petraitis and Sarah Bailey ๐Ÿ™Œ.

As you can tell, it was entertaining, but also incredibly informative, with each author giving honest and thoughtful responses about life as a crime writer.

All three have written multiple books, with their latest set in Victoria, and they all have TV series either out now, or in Sarahโ€™s case, about to be released, which gives you an indication of the calibre of their work.

Thank you to Dandenong Ranges Literary Festival for inviting me to be part of this leading literary event, and to the generosity of the authors for their time and insightful answers.

Missed this year? Follow @dandyrangeslitfest for news about next yearโ€™s event.

Thank you also to my incredibly supportive fellow writing friends for attending, and the photos!

AWC graduate Kirstie Bedford has signed a two-book deal with Bloodhound Books. Her debut psychological suspense novel, โ€˜White Liesโ€™, comes out in July 2027, and her second crime novel, 'Murder She Heard', follows later that year.โ
โ
Kirstie is a travel editor, and 'White Lies' was born at an airport. She was heading off on a hosted trip she hadnโ€™t looked into too closely and thought, โ€œgosh, things could so easily go so wrong here.โ€ In the book, travel editor Lily Castillo and her husband take the work trip of a lifetime and are kidnapped on an isolated island in Indonesia.โ
โ
Kirstie did our Creative Writing Stage 1 course and then Write Your Novel. โ€œBefore I did a course I didnโ€™t even know what genre I was writing in, I knew nothing about structure or character development. Courses are like pressing the fast-forward button.โ€โ
โ
For a long time she didnโ€™t feel she was allowed to write crime. โ€œWhen I did finally let that go, 'White Lies' was the result.โ€โ
โ
Congratulations Kirstie! Follow her at @kirstiewrites.โ

Former World Bank director Nigel Roberts hiked 724 kilometres across one of the most remote regions in Nepal after losing both his wife and daughter following their struggles with bipolar disorder and addiction.

On The World Awaits travel podcast this week, he talks to us about his challenge trying to process his grief on the two-month hike, and how it led to his memoir, The Leopard and the Moon.

Roberts is now back walking the full length of Nepal and says travellers should not cancel their travel plans to the region, despite the flood in August, saying what happened impacted one river valley, and the locals desperately need your tourism dollars.

Take a listen to his remarkable journey.

Love Rome but feel like youโ€™ve been there, done that?

Grab those headphones because this week on The World Awaits travel podcast we have THE best way to weekend in Rome.

It starts with a stay at Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome, a palace built over the ruins of an ancient Roman bathhouse. where thereโ€™s Michelin-starred dining and sprawling suites where celebrities have stayed.

Then head out on a food tour to the residential neighbourhood of Testaccio with Bonsy in Tour guide Manuela Valenti, who calls this region home and where all the locals are her friends. Italian pastry anyone?

Also this week, the new rules around credit card travel insurance changes, the knickers that are the newest travel hack you need to know about, and we give you the lowdown on Lonely Planetโ€™s best travel destinations for 2027.

Whenever I am at Phillip Island, like this weekend (thanks to the footy for a long weekend :)), I can picture the characters in my second crime fiction in this very playground - which plays a key part in the story :)

I am deep in edits now, and these characters are so real people to me, and I hope when the book comes out at the end of next year you feel the same way!

* Sound on*

โ€œIโ€™m often asked if I am following in the footsteps of Jane Harper and Chris Hammer, but I actually wrote this book when I was 22 years old,โ€ says Michael Robotham.

Speaking at an event by Beaumaris Books to launch his first book based in Australia, โ€˜Tell Me Something Trueโ€™ (his 20th novel), Robotham said this manuscript went to acquisition in the late 80s, but was rejected.

That sent him on a very different geographical path with subsequent novels, of which heโ€™s now sold more than 8.5 million worldwide ๐Ÿคฏ.

The evening was full of hilarious stories, like the Stephen King one (sound on), and he couldnโ€™t have been in better hands than with Aidan Prewett, author of the highly successful, The Picasso Ransom.

Robotham says he does have an idea for another Australian-based novel too, so watch this space!
