It’s time to hang up the cap and goggles💙

Transferring to BYU after my freshman year at Arkansas, I pictured the next chapter of my swim career. Instead it became a long battle with injuries. Last season I medically redshirted, holding onto hope that this year I’d return to the pool. But once again I stayed out of the water. More doctors. More MRIs. More uncertainty.

I’ve now been told I need a career-ending surgery.

A small part of me feels relief in finally having answers. A much bigger part of me feels completely lost. After dedicating 15 years to this sport, losing it like this was never something I had pictured. Swimming shaped me in how I work, how I dream, how I push, and who I’ve become outside the pool too.

I’m incredibly grateful for everything this sport gave me: the opportunities, the exciting travels, and all the people who became part of me along the way.

To my teammates from club, high school, and college swim, thank you for being my family. You make the tough days easier and the great days unforgettable. You filled this journey with so much love.

To my parents, thank you for every sacrifice, every meet in the stands, every early morning drive, and every comeback you supported me through. I could never have done this without you.

To all my coaches throughout the years, thank you. Whether you taught me the basics or pushed me toward bigger goals, every correction and piece of encouragement built the athlete and person I am today.

Coach Franks and Coach Peeps, thank you for seeing beyond the swimmer. You believed in when I didn’t and helped me grow far past the sport itself. The confidence, strength, and self-belief you helped me find will stay with me long after the pool.

A special thank you to Coach Tamber, who gave me the chance to come home to BYU. For the grace, trust, and constant encouragement. Though this ending wasn’t part of the plan, your continuous support means more than you’ll ever know.

This wasn’t the ending I pictured. But I’m choosing gratitude over bitterness. The journey over the heartbreak.

Swimming gave me more than I could ever give back. And for that, I will always be thankful. Now onto that swammer life. by @kirxanthos
