2022/23 Brøndby IF Away by Hummel

Hummel got everything right about this Brøndby IF away jersey. The beautiful colors, the sublime tribute to the city, etc. But, without a doubt, the star of the show is that wildly unique and beautiful nameset. Created in honor of the street art and graffiti culture in and around the city, I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything like it.

MATCH WORN - 1978 Perú Home by Adidas

One of the absolute diamonds of my collection, I’m extremely lucky and grateful to have this museum piece hanging in my personal closet. This ultra rare match worn Adidas jersey was worn by the late Alianza Lima great, Roberto Rojas Tardío aka El Cucurucho. I was lucky enough to buy the shirt directly from a friend @egacila who is close with the player’s family. They said this shirt had been worn in friendly matches in preparation for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. Thanks to my friend @prakzis and his incredibly well-researched book, Amor a la camiseta, I’ve been able to reasonably conclude that the shirt was likely worn in 1979 friendlies. However, there is also a chance it may have been used in the 1978 World Cup itself as Perú debuted the Adidas jerseys at the World Cup without having worn them in any previous friendlies prior to the tournament. Rojas only made a single appearance in the 1978 World Cup — and it just so happened to me Peru’s infamous and highly suspicious 6-0 defeat to the host Argentines that has become part of world footballing lore and world history. A boy can dream, can’t he? 🇵🇪

Honestly, I think you’d be hard pressed to find a more beautiful shirt. I think it’s absolutely perfect in every way and brings me pure joy.

After I bought this beauty, my friend who sold it to me (who also happens to be a world class collector) said to me, “Welcome to the big leagues.” Goosebumps.

Finally getting a chance to sit down and read a book dedicated to everything about Peruvian football and the art of finding and collecting jerseys. 1993/94 Pescara Home by Pienne

This isn’t something you see every day. Stunning shirt all around — easily one of the most beautiful shirts in my collection. Simple, elegant, detailed, etc. Perfect in so many ways. Pescara wore these shirts at home during the otherwise largely forgettable 1993/94 Serie B season where they finished 15th, only barely avoiding relegation thanks to goal difference. Beautiful details sublimated into the fabric, one of my favorite features of so many 90s shirts. Potentially match prepared for and/or worn by Senegalese legend Roger Mendy.

I paid too much for this on eBay but I don’t care. The time to buy something is when you see it. When would I find another in perfect condition? Better question — when will I find the even more rare and colorful away version? Just look at it!

1991/93 Scotland Away

Pure 90s amazingness. I recently wore this shirt to watch the Scots draw with England in the Euros group stages. I can’t help but think they would have pulled out a win if they’d worn these magical Umbro tops. The Paul McStay flock nameset puts this shirt over the top. Just gorgeous.
