My 10th graders loved (to the extent that some were capable 😉) Jason Reynolds’ novel-in-verse, Long Way Down! It was my first time teaching it, but I love a book that has teeth like this one ☝️ it’s so valuable to read about life experiences that don’t parallel your own in order to develop true empathy for others 📚

Zion’s claim is what we call an “evaluative claim.” Evaluative claims are statements that express a judgement or value about something, whether it’s good or bad, right or wrong, better or worse, or the best or worst.
