Some thoughts: We consider how to be on here, especially when something is going on in the community or the world, which is essentially, all of the time. Someone in a comment yesterday said we should (paraphrasing) “stick to selling clothes” and put “what we are good at (?)” with a question mark, at least leaving us some room to be human, fallible, in that respect. 😂 Yes, we are a shop. But we’re a shop made up of human beings who feel, who love our community and love humanity and have always used this little box to express something when it feels important. We are not experts, we make mistakes, we try to stay nimble and consider alternate views, we are not even a “we” that all feel the same here in the shop. Some of us would probably prefer we just stick to selling product and stay out of the messy world of politics & internet arguing.

This is a hard time of year. We utterly depend on holiday sales to keep this ship afloat. The past two months have been a deeply troubling time to try and push product, promote holiday cheer, or otherwise carry on business-as-usual.

It’s a balance. We are here to support artists, makers, farmers, herbalists, poets, dreamers, mystics…anyone trying to eke out a living in this broken system. We won’t be perfect, but we are trying our best as business owners, mothers, humans. We appreciate your support, even those of you who might not agree with us on everything.

💔Forever heartbroken to share the loss of Noël

Noël was the brightest and boldest heart-led lover, sharp and true, steadfast and shiny as a Brass Arrow. Her expansive creative vision touched fabric, ink, beads, thread, and paint with her language of deeply personal symbology. Over the years, as a caregiver and protector, Noël generously gave her time, energy, voice, resources, and opened her home to those in need.

When she was diagnosed in 2021, the outpouring of immense love, hope, and support was a mirror reflecting the love she had always poured into the world. That community offering lifted her wings and kept her soaring beyond the boilerplate prognosis of stage 4 cancer. With our friend Gina we pledged to only exchange positive, life-affirming words. Mind over matter, she chose life.

As a cancer survivor, against all odds, she inspired strength and grace. She transformed 6 months into 5 years. The intense challenges she faced along the way never cracked her spirit. She taught us a masterclass in optimism, faith, and single-minded determination through her presence and devotion to her child, her art, and voice.

Noël was a channel of indomitable Leo magic, forever emblazoned on our hearts.

1. Help us lay Noël to rest according to her wishes

2. Upload a Google doc with story of Noël or wish for her family, a video or a photo of Noël, her work, or you wearing/with her creation to the Brass Arrow Archive

3. Listen to the playlist I made of songs and artists she loved & sharing her love of romantic 50’s and 60s music, remembering her spirit by lighting a candle or making an offering. (Some of these songs were on her birthing playlist)
