Fear, obedience, frustration, the loss of oneself… Astarion is a complex character in Baldur’s Gate III. His struggle between vengeance and redemption reflects the scars Cazador left on his soul and body. The high-key lighting for Astarion symbolizes that duality between his craving for freedom from darkness and the yoke that binds him, it reminds him that immortality’s beauty does not erase wounds, only illuminates the weight of what keeps him prisoner.

For Cazador Szarr, the low-key lighting with strong contrasts reminds Astarion that surrender to darkness is what he must be grateful for, condemning him to remain trapped under one purpose: to make him lord of the vampires in exchange for the souls of those who gave everything to live eternally.
