This is my own photo of the World Trade Center, taken sometime around 1994–95 from the offices of Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates (HHPA) at 902 Broadway, where I worked on the 19th floor. This was my view.

We worked a lot of late nights, and the view was always spectacular. I’m not much of a photographer, but one night I took this with my Pentax K1000.

During my time at HHPA, I worked on the renovation of Windows on the World, located on the 106th and 107th floors of the North Tower. The project began in 1994 and culminated in its grand reopening on June 26, 1996. I was there often for site visits and installation. The project was later featured on the cover of Interior Design magazine’s September 1996 issue—the first time my work was published.

I have other memories of those towers, too—from visiting with my family as tourists when I was young, long before I worked in the city, to living in Hoboken, where they were part of our daily view. And from the Hudson, when I was lucky enough to catch a boat ride with a friend.

On September 11, 2001, I was working in the Flatiron District at a different office. I was standing on Fifth Avenue with a colleague when the second tower fell.

I watched it gracefully, almost quietly fall, as if someone were ever so gently pressing down on the top of it. The street was quiet, too. So many of us stood there watching, crying and hugging one another. It’s a vision burned into my mind forever.

There’s much more to the story—what I did afterward, how I got home, and the days spent glued to the television, trying to make sense of something that made no sense.

I’ve never considered myself lucky because I wasn’t in the thick of it. I was there, but like this photo, I watched it all unfold from afar.

College friends 🖤 We do our best to get together every summer, and if we’re lucky, we find a few more opportunities throughout the year🤩

Every time we’re together, I’m reminded just how fortunate I am to have these incredible women in my life. Over the years, we’ve celebrated friendships, marriages, families, careers, and many of life’s milestones. This weekend, we celebrated one of us finding love and getting married, AND we celebrated turning 60 together 🪩

Turning 60 alongside the women who have known me since our college days is a gift I don’t take for granted—and one I’ll always cherish 💫

Her mom’s ring was sitting in a box. So we got to work.

Kitty came in with her mom’s ring. An 18 carat gold setting with a brown topaz that she used to wear but over time, not only has her finger size changed (so normal!), her style has evolved too.

Kitty wanted something that would work better with her current collection. And truth be told, she is a huge CMD fan and advocate. Has been for years. When I started doing Reconstruction work, she wanted to hop on the train too.

We sat together and chatted about our ideas. I started sketching.

This is where every project begins. Just two people, a ring rich with history and a whole lot of possibility.

It’s always the people. These photos are a small sampling of the many good friends and talented designers I had the privilege of seeing while attending one of the biggest design shows in the commercial architecture & interiors industry. I’ve attended about 30 @neocon_shows!

I’ve been a part of this industry since 1988 - as a designer, as a marketer, as a creative. It’s a lot of work leading up to the show, but once we’re in it, inspiration surrounds me and gives me the fuel to do more 💪

Big shoutout to my business partner, good times maker, and best friend @revarevis. We have stories!

This is 60. I put on a new bra, I plucked a few new chin hairs, I wore little makeup, and went to dinner with my husband at 5 pm to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday night, Memorial Day weekend.

The pressure to do something big on my actual birthday put very unnecessary expectations on me. It didn’t work out, and I was really disappointed in myself for not planning something in advance. And you know what? It’s ok. It made look at what I have in front of me, right here, right now. And I am so lucky for the life I have.

A gigantic thank you to my hubby @mat_hale_ for his kindness, empathy, and love when I was so overwhelmed I didn’t want to do a thing, and to my badass girlfriends who are simply amazing and made me feel so special this weekend. And to every family member and friend near and far for sending me love and birthday wishes, I appreciate and love every one of you.

We threw a little semi-surprise pre-birthday party for my friend Elisa at @anjelicasrestaurant last week✨ She knew we were going to dinner, but didn’t know that my co-planner, @kittyminervini and I had arranged for a larger group of her lady friends to be there.💫
The alleyway at Anjelica’s is magical and so Italy like, it doesn’t need much- but we still wanted to add a few extra touches to personalize this awesome ladies dinner for Elisa. So we clipped hydrengas from our trees out front and Kitty picked up some perfect smaller yellow flowers to compliment.🌼
Elisa, like myself, is a lover of all things mystical so I made tarot card inspired cookie favors and ordered super fun scratch off fortunes from @cosmicbutcher to place at each seat.💫
I also brought a few of my tarot and oracle decks with me and was so excited when everyone started passing my favorite deck around and pulling cards. (Literally, no surprise what I pulled! 💀👀)
After an absolutely delicious dinner, Anjelica’s plated samplings of two of our favorite cakes of theirs for dessert (the orange olive oil cake and the pistachio cake- #itkyk ) and I brought a mini chocolate and vanilla buttercream candle blowout cake topped with a Leo lion, plated on my Grandmothers china to echo the vibe.🎂
You know when you have one of those nights that’s just one for the books and you can’t even say why? This was one of them! 💖 An incredible group of ladies, delicious food, the kindest hosts, lots chatter, laughter and so much love. Hope you are enjoying your birthday weekend @elisabates 🎈We loved celebrating you! Much love & all good things! ✨❤️❤️
