That's a wrap on ATK9 2026. 🐕‍🦺🇺🇸

Bite work. Building searches. Night ops. Water crossings. Stairwells. Days of reps alongside some of the best working dog teams in the country — every ounce of effort to get better.

Thank you to everyone who put this on and every team that showed up to work. Already counting down to next year.

A huge THANK YOU to @spikesk9fund for generously sending me to American Tactical K9 Conference! Your support and commitment to law enforcement K-9 teams make opportunities like this possible. Investing in handlers and their training directly impacts our ability to better serve our communities and bring our K-9 partners home safely.

Another big thank you to @atk9usa for the top-notch instruction and incredible training facilities! The knowledge, experience, and professionalism of the instructors were second to none. It’s always a privilege to learn from people who are passionate about pushing the K-9 profession forward.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to sharpen my skills, gain new perspectives, and bring valuable knowledge back to my unit.
And a HUGE thank you to @kingdomk9llc @lockedonk9llc @mswartzie for spending multiple reps everyday after hours with Knox! Your passion to help others is truly appreciated! Learned a ton from you guys!

Can’t thank @spikesk9fund enough for providing Knox with a @k9storminc ballistic vest. I’ve also been lucky enough to attend a Spikes School for top tier training. Highly recommend any handler to get in touch with them for any of your units needs! by @kitupk9

If your K-9 training is always comfortable, you’re training for a deployment that probably isn’t coming.

Real tracks happen at 0200. In the woods. In the rain. Through briars, ditches, and contaminated starts—with limited information and a suspect who doesn’t want to be found.

Train for that.

Work ugly starts. Track in the dark. Wear your actual gear. Push into bad terrain. Learn to read your dog when you’re tired and everything around you is competing for your attention.

Don’t train to look good.

Train to be useful when it matters.

Get uncomfortable.

That’s the Kit Up mindset.

K9 GHOST 👻 | BLACKOUT

Some dogs work the track.

K9 Ghost hunts it.

No daylight. Limited visibility. Urban terrain. Unknown threats. Just a K9 team working through the same problems they could face when the call comes in at 0200.

BLACKOUT isn’t about making training look cool in the dark. It’s about taking away the comfort of daylight and forcing teams to trust their training, their equipment, and each other.

K9 Ghost showed exactly what that looks like.

Train in the conditions you may have to fight in.

🌑 Low-light operations
🐕‍🦺 K9 tracking
🚁 Drone integration
🌃 Urban problem solving
🤝 Teamwork under pressure

BLACKOUT DRONE TEAMS 🔥

BLACKOUT isn’t just about what’s happening at the end of the leash.

Our drone teams took the manhunt vertical, giving handlers another set of eyes when visibility disappeared and the terrain started working against them.

K9s on the ground. Drones overhead. Teams communicating in real time.

The goal is to deploy the dog, handler, and drone like a well oiled machine. We integrate every available asset to build a clearer operational picture, tighten containment, and put the K9 team in a better position to make the apprehension.

Train in the conditions you’re actually going to work in.

BLACKOUT
Own the dark.

BLACKOUT: THE MANHUNT | DAY 2 🌑

K9 Odin and his handler got a hell of a rep in today.

The scenario: homicide suspects flee into an urban structure.

What started as a manhunt quickly turned into a building problem. The team had to work through the transition, manage a changing environment, communicate with their cover elements, and continue to read and trust the dog as the scenario developed.

Odin stayed in the fight and ultimately located the suspect, ending the scenario with a K9 apprehension.

This is what we want out of scenario-based training. Not a perfect run. Not a scripted outcome. A problem that forces the handler to think, communicate, make decisions under pressure, and work within the capabilities of their dog and the team around them.

Every rep gives you information. You figure out what worked, what didn’t, and what you want to tighten up before the next deployment.

And at the end of the day, that’s the point.

Build good dogs. Build confident handlers. Build teams that can solve problems when the environment gets complicated.

Solid work from K9 Odin and his handler.

Don’t let the real call be your first time in the dark.

Darkness degrades visual acuity, depth perception, terrain recognition, and threat identification…all while increasing cognitive workload and slowing decision-making.

That is why nighttime readiness requires MORE than just a capable dog.

It requires a conditioned handler, a proven K-9, disciplined communication, and the intelligent integration of every available asset.

One coordinated mission.

Train under the conditions in which you may actually deploy.

TRAIN IN THE DARK.
INTEGRATE YOUR ASSETS.
MASTER THE NIGHT.
BLACKOUT

September 8-10th in Pender County.
