Today is the anniversary of the day we lost Ed. Every year this day comes around is a day that runs the gamut of emotions. I really miss him. But as always-the best way to remember him is to listen to all the amazing art he left us. Lately I’ve been listening to a fair bit of @bnlx2day lately as well as this banger of a record by The 27 Various. Miss you Ed. by @kjaudio

There are certain bands that don’t simply survive an era, they help define it.

On Wednesday, September 16th, I’m incredibly stoked to join @thecharlatans and Minneapolis’ own @twoharborsmusic at the @finelinempls for what should be a brilliant night celebrating the past, present and enduring influence of British pop.

Emerging from the explosion of British music at the dawn of the ’90s, The Charlatans quickly established themselves as much more than another band associated with the ‘Madchester’ movement. Their 1990 debut “Some Friendly”went straight to #1 in the UK, propelled by the unmistakable Hammond-organ swirl and groove of “The Only One I Know.”

On a personal note, The Charlatans were actually the very first band I ever saw live at First Avenue back in April of 1992. Needless to say, this West Midlands band has held a very special place in my heart ever since.

It was also a real pleasure to interview The Charlatans’ lyricist and vocalist Tim Burgess a few years back at the Electric Fetus for the release of his great book “The Listening Party.” Having the chance to sit down and talk music with someone whose band has meant so much to me over the years made that a particularly memorable experience.

And more than 30 years later, The Charlatans remain a living link between psychedelia, post-punk, indie dance and the great tradition of British guitar pop. Now touring behind their excellent 14th studio album “We Are Love” they’re still very much adding to that legacy.

And there couldn’t be a more fitting local band to join them than Two Harbors.

One of the Twin Cities’ great torchbearers for British-inspired guitar music, Two Harbors have taken that obsession all the way to London’s Abbey Road Studios where both 2014’s “The Natural Order of Things” and their 2025 comeback album “Can’t Shake This Dream” were mastered by Frank Arkwright.

I’ll be kicking things off right at 7pm, setting the tone with a specially curated set of British pop music videos through the decades tracing the sounds, scenes and artists that ultimately led us to The Charlatans.

This one is going to be extra special. 🇬🇧

We’re proud to share the new single “Shimmy” with you, which is premiering via @tgefm today.

This sentimental track was written while in recovery after an illness and surgery. My friends checked in on me and I felt loved. When I was moving around again, I just wanted to dance (poorly) with my people.

I switched the narrative up a little bit and made it about checking in on any of your loves ones, “Hey, let’s get out of this room and go dancing. Yeah, we all look ridiculous, but we’re alive.” This one is extra special to me.

@rosecrud (beach bunny, motion city soundtrack, fall out boy) mixed it and made it sound like it wasn’t recorded in the basement 🙏 😭

@kjaudio mastered it and made it pop

@shutupstephan played the gibson sg and memory man

@steadfastrecs and @sweetcheetahpr are the labels releasing the album(s)

@dhugdahl did the art for the single by @kjaudio

Special project for client, large assist by @keech_design who made me this custom jig. A project like this can take FOREVER manually measuring and laying out and then hoping you get it right, but with a jig the entire project took me less than 20min!!! by @kjaudio
