I am beginning a new chapter in my life as I am retiring this week. Since I made the decision to retire, I have thought a lot about my past jobs, experiences, and some of the incredible people, I worked with. I can honestly say that I have loved every job that I have had. Of course, some more than others.

I especially want to thank the coworkers and students whom I had the pleasure to work with and for making my journey enjoyable, memorable, and the opportunity to learn from all of you. I believe that if I did not work with so many talented and fun people, I would not have loved my work life as much as I have throughout my career.

I will be honest with you; retiring is exciting and scary at the same time. I am excited to be able to enjoy all my free time (isn’t this why we work so hard?). But it is also scary because work has been such a huge part of my life.

Some of you know this but Mike always told me that he didn’t think I could retire because I enjoy working, I guess he is right because I plan to teach as an adjunct professor in the fall.

Mike and I have had such a great week because Hannah and Chris came to visit us. We have done so many fun things such as: mani-pedis, swim, play board games, color, eat at McDonalds, laugh a lot and have had many many hugs! Our hearts are full this week! 🥰❤️ by @kkbyers

Michael is moving to Virginia tomorrow to start a new chapter in his life and Mike and I could not be more excited for him.

He is transferring to Langley AFB where he will continue working in Air Force contracting.

He does not know anyone there, so I am a little worried for him. But, I also know that he will meet people soon and thrive.

We have been very fortunate that he has lived close by and have been able to see him often. But, how can I not be happy and excited for him when he is spreading his wings even more!

Several weeks ago, I shared that Michael had been honored as one of the recipients of the “NextGen under 30”.

Tonight was the award banquet where we were able to celebrate Michael, as well as other incredible winners. @mcbyers97 @mbyers55 @nextgenunder30foundation

Happy birthday to my son, Michael. It is hard to believe he is 24.

It seems like it was just a few years ago that he was watching Bob the Builder or sharing his love of sharks.

He is kind, patient and driven and he has taught me so much. I say all of the time, that when I grow up that I want to be just like him. ❤️

Mom brag moment.

Michael has worked at Tinker Air Force Base for two years and he won an annual civilian award for the year 2020 from AMIC (The Acquisition Management and Integration Center) of the Air Force.🏆

Not only is this impressive to have earned this with the crazy year that 2020 was but he also worked from home during the majority of that time after only being in the office 8 months from starting his new position.

He competed with other civilian employees from Oklahoma, Texas, Florida and Virginia.

Michael has always impressed Mike and I with his work ethic and can-do attitude, but is nice to see others recognize it too!
