Woohoo 🙌 Queens Public TV just dropped their episode on a visit to my studio❤️🙏🙌 Luchia and Christo did a masterful job in getting me to talk, filming my studio and works, and piecing together the multitude of takes necessitated by rush hour 7 subway noise! #studiovisit #sculpture #mosaic #mosaicsculpture #qptv @qptv by @kkdimit

#wip update: Thank you @dawelda for the portrait as I was mounting the trees onto the temple! Thank you @metalight_new_york for holding them in place as I welded them together! I had fun this weekend making the major root system with 1/2” rods, induction heater and a vise.

#wip A lot of progress since my last post! Too focused to take pics! This really has turned to be a 3-month residency, so please forgive my MIA! I miss you and will emerge eventually 🤗

All branches now heated, forged, bent and welded on. Next will be all of the forged twigs. Took a minute to play with pretend placing the trees on the temple😉

#wip On to the trees! Bending pipe with induction heater, building up with rods and welds, shaping with grinder (😂 perhaps too shapely - more humanoid than anthropomorphic tree at this point - he will have to go on a diet🤣). I love the arabesques the feminine tree armature is doing in the background 🤩. My big challenge now is that, as I continue to heat up the metal with all the welding, it does morph a little still 🫠, so the carefully bent intertwining and interconnected bodies and branches don’t interlock now…. Ah, well, hopefully once I build out the female tree, the solution will be fairly easy…🙏😏

WIP update for my outdoor Eternal Embrace (Baucis & Philemon): Done (almost) with the temple finally! First pic shows it on the cool motorcycle hydraulic lift as it gets too heavy for me to lift onto the table. The video shows me taking over the whole metal shop at Makerspace with my life-size drawings to be able to heat-bend and forge the pipes and rods for the trees. Thank goodness it is summer and Ithe other welders are away!

Definitely had a huge amount of learning curve challenges (new place, new equipment, a lot to still learn about metal and heat and how to prevent warping, days correcting or mitigating said warping…) and time welding and grinding (and grinding and grinding) every seam. With a very tight deadline, I have dropped (almost) everything. To stay chilled about that, the Universe told me to think of this as a 3-month residency 🙏🧘🏼‍♀️👩‍🏭 See everyone on the other side!!!

Pictured here with others you're enjoying on the other side: his father, my mother, my brothers, and my dear Greg.
