What did we do for our anniversary?

lol.

Work and life got in the way of going out to dinner.

Luckily I had a “fun activity” planned… (purchased 100 glow sticks on Amazon).

Me: Meet me in the living room in five minutes and wear all black. Close your eyes.

This anniversary I laughed harder than I’ve laughed all year. Bringing the silly moments and memories > than any fancy plans.

Happy 3rd anniversary @fillolod

Remember that time we went crazy and planned a wedding with a new born then got married in a beautiful castle in Italy with so many loved ones?

When I forget how many years, I can just take Chicco’s age and minus 0.5 years so that works out nicely.

The years are going by quickly, and the further we get from this point in time the more precious it is.

I can still feel the hot sun in front of the Duomo and taste the delicious tortelli, and hear our friends shouting and cheering at dinner (while waiving the napkins in the air)!

I love u beyond 💘

Isy turned 21 months, and we are finally seeing them get along (maybe 2 out of 10 instances - which is a win!).

Our little princess, “busy Isy”, loves to copy everything Chicco does, and has picked up everything so quickly.

It’s like she was a sponge baby for a year and then- all of a sudden- she can instantly do things and say things we had no idea she could do.
I was sitting with her on the balcony, and she looked over at me and said “how are you?” I laughed because I’ve never heard her say that and said “I’m good, Isy. Thank you. How are you?” And she like shrugged with a big proud smile and said “I’m good.” 😂

End of summer snaps

It was a slow pace with no big trips this summer.

Our California summer☀️ was full of sandy beach heads, mini day trips to catch up with friends, and lots of good fam time!

This was the summer Isy said “I love you mama” for the first time and Chicco learned to make scaloppine with Nonna 😋 and dial my parents’ hotel room on repeat lol ☎️ taken in California by @kkholidayy

Isy wakes up looking like she has a blow out, while my hair is a mess.

Do you ever have hair envy of toddlers? So unfair.

Growing out her bangs and can’t wait to start to style it- once I can keep her still 5 seconds!

Summer snaps 🏖️

We are finished with camp, and Nonna Titti has arrived for 1.5 months- which means Camp Nonna has begun!

Chicco’s Italian is flourishing, Isy is now saying l’altro (the other) gelato 🍦🍦 And we are all getting cooking lessons with Nonna 🍝 😋

We are having Chicco try bball with Uncle @toddkurihara🏀 , Euro soccer with me⚽️, and swimming with grandma @kuriharaelizabeth 🏊🏽‍♂️ to see what he enjoys. Filippo keeps wanting to take him surfing 🏄🏻‍♂️, but 1st he needs to learn to swim!

I’m making a bucket list of things to do this summer near by. So far:

This summer we are all about mini adventures (within an hour from LA) to explore fun spots with the kids.

Farmakis Farms was great.
The kids loved the 🐐🐖🫏🐓
and we loved that it was easy to get to and close to San Clemente.

There’s a great farmers’ market set up there, and a food truck, but we decided to try Pizza Port about 10 minutes away in the heart of San Clemente. Great ocean views, “good American style pizza” says @fillolod and also a brewery downstairs.

I loved this day trip- I had to share!

Happy Father’s Day @fillolod, my partner in chasing toddlers, holding down wild babies to eat, early morning espresso maker, shoulder to carry kid(s) and bags, master griller, and music man.

I know we are in the thick of it, and I love how you don’t ever want them to grow out of the thick of it (while I’m planning retirement in 18 years in Hawaii or Italy 🤣).

You were born to be a papá. We are so lucky to have you. 😘 @fillolod

And happy Father’s Day to my dad @russkurihara_ who is here every day with a smile. You bring the aloha to our family. My kids and I are lucky to be a part of your retirement plan:) I’m not sure what was more demanding, being an on-call doctor or an on-call grandpa? 🧰 Now I know why you didn’t want to live 5 minutes from the hospital 🩺😂

Your sign to interview your kid every year for Father’s Day. This was my first time, and I want to do it now every year.

Hearing Chicco start to express himself and his love for his papá is the sweetest thing 🥹

Next year, we will see what little sis has to say too 😎

We love you, @fillolod, until the “numbers are done.” 🤣♾️

(I’m sharing this ahead of Sunday since I will likely be on kid watch with my hands full while Filippo surfs all day in his ideal 🌍!)

My mom sent me a list of “phrases that fill a child with love” and these were some of my favorites.

After reading it, I realized we should be saying these things to ourselves as adults too! 💞
1. You’re safe with me.
2. I noticed your terrific effort.
3. It’s okay to have big feelings. I’ll be here.
4. I’m listening, take your time.
5. Let’s see if we can fix it together.
6. Thank you for being you.
7. Thank you for telling me. What would make you feel better?

How we speak to our inner self is just as important as how we speak to others!
