Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and Oahu circa 2010. What was supposed to be a short vacation, turned out to be a life-changing trip that lasted more than a few months. I went out there solo on a whim - no expectations whatsoever. I needed to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone, and that I did. As a result I created life-long friendships - a true ‘ohana’ - and my eyes were opened in a way that changed the trajectory of my future and, ultimately, career - and why I became a flight attendant. I was also introduced to some pretty amazing musicians (@pepperlive). If I had the chance, I’d do it all over again. “No regrets” (@mikelovemusic/@kendralove333). There’s a lot of world out there to experience that social media just can’t capture. 🤍

Weekend made. To say Kona will always be in my heart is putting it mildly. It’s hard to put into words. So grateful that @pepperlive came all the way to lil’ Rhody to share some 808 vibes. ‘Til next time! 🤙 #pepperohana taken in Paddy's Beach Club by @klfrancois

I was hesitant to share this in light of recent events and the timing of what would have been my grandfather’s 101st birthday today, but it’s surely no coincidence I happened upon this box while cleaning out the basement last night.

My grandfather Ken passed away in 1989. I was a little over 3 years old at the time, yet I always felt a strong connection to him, and ultimately, would follow in his footsteps working for the same airline. Ken was a B-24 pilot in WWII, returning to RI and becoming a flight instructor after the war. He was hired by American Airlines in 1951 and received his “Million Miler” award in 1961. He retired in 1982 on the DC-10, his last flight to San Francisco, taking my family along for the ride, with everyone jokingly chanting, “shoot the bridge.” He did it his way, that’s for sure.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Gramps, you are, indeed, the most fascinating person I’ve never truly met. Keep a watchful eye over us all from above. by @klfrancois

“The End of the Innocence.”

If I had to caption this photo, that would be it. Taken 12 years ago today in Hampton Beach, NH. Kyle and I decided to take a spur of the moment trip up north for the 4th. It was perfect, until a ‘nor Easter rolled through, cancelling the fireworks. No biggie, we’ll just stay an extra night. Securing a place to stay was no easy feat to say the least—but we somehow did it. Brunch and lobster bennies was our reward, and we scored one of the best seats in the house—on the rooftop overlooking the boardwalk and the beach. Brunch was amazing, as was the view.

Shortly after brunch, I received a call from my Uncle Ken that would forever change me—my Dad had passed away. We never did get to check in, and it was one hell of a long car ride back to North Kingstown, but I’ll never forget it. Or the compassion shown to me once I learned my world had flipped upside down. It’s true—one phone call truly can change everything. Regardless, answer the phone.

Looking back now, 12 years later, Kyle also in spirit, this photo for me is a poignant reminder of how far I’ve come since that morning back in 2014 and all I’ve learned along the way. When the world feels like it’s crashing down around you, much like waves at a beach, learn to take those moments in stride. Waters calm, eventually, and while no two waves are the same, still, there’s beauty to be found in every single one, nonetheless. This photo may represent the end of my innocence, so to speak, but it’s also reminiscent of the beginning of so much more.

Happy Heavenly Anniversary, Dad. Salute! ♥️ by @klfrancois
