After an 8 year journey with various evolutions along the way, my animation project “The Rainbow Quilt” is finally ending its journey as a fully edited 30-minute Animated Album film.

Years ago when I was still pretty fresh to the city I had gotten into VJing with my friend @xzacktoblade at a regular show called “Brooklyn Underground” that featured different musicians each time. We would create visuals to be projected behind the musicians and had a lot of fun triggering and “performing” these visuals. I thought what if I made visuals to my own music and created a “music set” length performance that actually centered around the visuals instead of music?

So I created a 6 track album where one of the songs actually ended up being interchangeable depending on how I wanted to perform it that day, but for the rest of it the idea was that outside of that one potential change the music all remained the same pre-recorded piece and what was different each performance was how I played out the animated visuals in real time, centering the “performance” aspect around animation, a medium not generally regarded as a performance art, and not the music.

I ended up playing I think 11 shows in NYC, LA, Chicago and Iowa City. After that I was pretty much ready to retire the project but my amazing wife @fullafelz convinced me to edit it into a film to live as something viewable forever. After a lot of editing including an 8 minute piece at the end that is so vfx heavy it took my computer about a month to render, it is now here and I have begun submitting it to film festivals.

In addition to the people tagged here I am also thanking @katherinehogan for helping me to put on shows in the early days and being great at organizing venues for my visuals in general (you will recognize some visuals I put in from ANTICS lol) and @itsyosquared for getting me into VJing as well and being so inspirational as an independent animator who pulls off big ambitious projects and a great collaborator in this area.

I’m so excited to finally have this finished!

🎨🖌️Official Art Process Video🖌️🎨

This is the general process I use for my bigger watercolors. This one I have been working on and off since December last year. Life is too busy but I finally finished it! Want to do a show featuring all 4 of these large watercolors that I will eventually finish. This is number 3.
