Following the film, we’ll have a panel discussion with special guest, Fred Wesley of the New JBs!

WE WANT THE FUNK! is a syncopated voyage through the history of funk music, spanning from African, soul, and early jazz roots, to its rise into the public consciousness. Featuring James Brown’s dynamism, the extraterrestrial funk of George Clinton’s Parliament Funkadelic, transformed girl group Labelle, and Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, the story also traces funk’s influences on both new wave and hip-hop.

ADMISSION IS FREE, BUT PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!

WE WANT THE FUNK! takes viewers on a syncopated journey through the history of funk music, from its African, soul, and early jazz roots to its rise into the mainstream. Featuring the electrifying energy of James Brown, the extraterrestrial funk of George Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic, the transformed girl group Labelle, and Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, the film also explores funk’s influence on new wave and hip-hop.

And that’s not all! The legendary Fred Wesley of the New JBs will join us as a special guest for a post-screening discussion. Trust us, you won’t want to miss this!
