NEW | IKAT CUSHIONS

Found in a vast six-storey fabric market in Delhi, where textiles arrive from across India and the Silk Road countries, our search for the perfect Ikat fabric came to an end. We were immediately drawn in by the rich colours, character and craftsmanship and so our new cushion collection was born!

Ikat is created using a highly skilled process where the yarn is dyed before weaving. The result is a beautifully irregular geometric pattern with a soft, blurred appearance and a unique sense of movement. Our favourite element; no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

Our new collection features eight different colourways, each handcrafted into two or three design variations and available filled or unfilled.

Because of the nature of ikat, every cushion is unique. Whilst they sit beautifully together, pattern placement, slubs, seams and subtle variations are all part of their charm.

For all our American followers, did you know it’s a national holiday here in England today? 🇬🇧

My perfect bank holiday in Bradford on Avon starts with a trip to @thecheeseshopbradfordonavon on Mason’s Hill, where I somehow always leave carrying far more cheese than originally planned 🧀

Then it’s a wander through The Shambles to one of my favourite little bookshops for a browse, followed by coffee at @fig_boa the kind of slow morning that feels impossible to rush.

After that, I love pottering around @previoushomewares discovering beautiful homeware and little gifts I definitely don’t need but always want.

Of course, no visit is complete without a stroll across the old bridge over the River Avon, one of those views that never loses its magic.

Then it’s home for a relaxed afternoon ahead, good food, nowhere to be, and absolutely no plans beyond relaxing.

Honestly, the simple English pleasures really are the best ones 🤍

I’m Kate, a Wiltshire-based designer, and I thought it was about time I introduced myself to you all, including some new followers; welcome!

I am at my happiest painting and sketching new designs for my fabric and wallpaper collections in my studio or finding inspiration from dusty museums!

I design painterly, characterful patterns intended to bring depth, narrative and a sense of play to interiors, all created to endure rather than follow trends.

Many of our fabrics are hand printed and produced by our wonderful team in India and our wallpapers are printed in the US & UK both following as many sustainable aspects as possible.

There’s something very calming about repetition.

Making the same mark over and over and watching a pattern slowly emerge whilst allowing your hands to take over and your mind to quieten for a while.

Alongside my work as a designer, I’m currently training to become a psychotherapist, and it’s made me think even more about the relationship between creativity and our mental wellbeing.

For me, this kind of repetitive mark-making can be incredibly mindful. I think there’s a similarity to knitting, weaving or embroidery with a gentle rhythm that holds your attention just enough to quieten some of the noise around you. And what’s more it doesn’t have to result in anything perfect or even anything at all. Sometimes it’s simply about finding the time to practise, switch off and become absorbed in the process.

With World Mental Health Day this Saturday it feels like a good reminder that slowing down can take many different forms.

Inspired by the flamboyant prints found inside Victorian mourning jackets after the death of Prince Albert, POW! takes its cue from linings that were anything but sombre. Wildly eccentric, unexpectedly modern and full of life; when I found a small swatch of this vintage fabric I was inspired and POW! was born.

Irreverent, playful and one of our most-loved patterns which is available in a range of colours and as fabric and wallpaper.

A little British autumn tradition you may not have heard of… 🍂

Today - 29 September - is Michaelmas; traditionally one of the four quarter days in the British calendar and a marker of the changing season.

Historically connected with harvest time, it arrives just as the landscape begins its shift from summer greens to richer, warmer autumnal shades.

It’s a colour palette we never tire of, russet, ochre, tobacco, plum and faded rose, all beautifully at home in an autumn interior. It’s a little piece of British tradition, translated into pattern and colour.

This morning at Stonehenge, marking the Autumn Equinox. 🍂

For our US friends, this is the fall equinox, when day and night are almost equal, marking the astronomical start of Autumn here in the Northern Hemisphere.

People have gathered at Stonehenge for centuries to mark the changing seasons, drawn by the way the stones align with the movement of the sun.

It feels like the perfect moment to celebrate one of my favourite seasons for colour and pattern: rich russets, ochres and the softer, layered tones of autumn; all reflected in my fabrics and wallpapers.

People often ask how I choose colours. The truth is, very few are new.

Most have fascinating histories stretching back hundreds, sometimes thousands of years and I love discovering those stories, having fun with combinations and giving colour a place in our homes.
