We took high school students on a tour of what’s possible.

Partnered with @sanjoaquinaplus to pilot our Creative Pathways program with @aspirelha, bringing students to @huddlecowork in downtown Stockton to experience real creative spaces, hear from real creative professionals, and walk away knowing the 209 has a place for them in this industry.

Shoutout to @altostudiios owner Javi for showing up and sharing your story. The panel was real. The workshop hit. The students showed out.

Expanding Horizons.
From Fresno to Sacramento State, TROY Center accompanied one of our young men to the 10th Annual R.E.A.L. Manhood event, hosted by Dwight Taylor Sr. An opportunity to step beyond his familiar three-block radius, embrace an unfamiliar setting, and begin seeing a future filled with possibilities beyond what he has always known.
This video captures a few of those moments. But behind each one is something greater: a young person willing to step outside his comfort zone, someone consistently beside him offering encouragement, and a community committed to opening doors that may have once felt out of reach.
Every young person deserves the opportunity to discover who they can become beyond the boundaries of what they know. Your support allows us to make these opportunities real, one relationship, one experience, and one young person at a time.

📢 ROLL CALL! Introducing the Freshman Class of our Art is Resistance Cohort!

First up: Teu le Vā Artist Collective (TLV), a vibrant group of Pasifiken artists, organizers, and cultural workers from across the Bay Area. TLV creates spaces for connection, collaboration, and cultural expression that honor Pasifiken identity and values.

Their month-long exhibition at the Ruth Williams Bayview Opera House, “It’s Giving Hella Pasifika,” celebrated Pasifika Joy: A Collective Homecoming.

Teu le vā means nurturing the space between us—caring for the relationships that connect us. Through art and community, TLV honors ancestral journeys, Indigenous wisdom, and the resilience that reminds us why Art is Resistance.

🎨 MEET THE ARTISTS (in order of appearance):

✨ Spulu Nism — Creative mover, storyteller, dance maker, body historian, fashion designer, and interdisciplinary artist working on Chochenyo Ohlone land. @spulunism

✨ Epi Aumave — Community leader, co-founder, and President/Director of Operations of Samoan Solutions, supporting Sāmoan and Pasifika communities throughout the Bay Area through cultural advocacy and civic engagement. @faamaludesigns

✨ Sophia Tupuola — First-generation Sāmoan-American raised in Bayview Hunters Point on unceded Ramaytush Ohlone land. Her liberation work centers Black and Brown communities through grassroots organizing, collective decision-making, and creative empowerment. A proud Mama, Warrior, and World Maker.

✨ Oshún — Afro-Pasifika youth and emerging Bay Area artist practicing personal liberation through emotional awareness, regulation, and problem-solving. A warrior and world-maker, Oshún’s journey is featured in the Liberated Kid short story series, celebrating culture keeping and self-determination.

🌺 Homecoming matters. Reconnecting with our roots honors our ancestors, celebrates our resilience, and challenges conventional Western value systems. Together, we redefine art and artistry while creating space for Pasifika voices to thrive.

✨A Future Worth Building✨

Meet the apprentices building their futures while building up San Francisco’s young people.

In January 2026, the San Francisco Beacon Initiative (SFBI) launched the city’s first Expanded Learning Registered Apprenticeship Program, a response to longstanding workforce challenges like staff retention and the lack of clear career pathways. These challenges intensified across our network after 2020, and young people felt the impact.
Registered apprenticeships are a proven model. Apprentices receive no-cost college coursework, on-the-job training, mentorship, dedicated success coordinators, and a cohort of peers to learn alongside. Together, these supports help people build skills, earn credentials, and grow their careers while continuing to serve their communities. Now in the program’s second semester, SFBI partnered with KLTRD Media to create this video, which lifts up our apprentices’ voices, celebrates the work they do every day, and shares their stories with the world.
The message is simple but powerful: the people who show up every day to help young people build their futures have a future worth building, too.
