Hi, I'm Katherine — a board certified Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Licensed Acupuncturist here in Santa Fe, NM.

My journey with Chinese medicine actually started as a patient. At 16, I was struggling with chronic fatigue syndrome and getting nowhere with conventional medicine. Acupuncture changed that, along with the whole direction of my life.

That experience is what shapes how I care for every patient who walks through my door. You'll always be heard, never rushed, and treated as a whole person.

Whether you're dealing with pain, stress, allergies, or just want to feel more balanced, I'd love to help. Free phone consults are available if you want to chat before booking.

Spring has sprung here in Santa Fe. Have you made your appointment for a seasonal tune up? by @kmcacupuncture

When burnout and chronic stress become the norm, it can feel like your body is running on empty.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Kidneys are said to house Jing—your deep reserve connected to long-term vitality, resilience, and healthy aging. Long days, short nights, and constant demands can feel like repeated withdrawals from that reserve.

To help preserve your Kidney Jing, prioritize adequate rest, avoid overwork when possible, choose warm, nourishing foods, and incorporate gentle movement into your routine.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine offer a gentle, individualized way to pause, restore balance, and support your overall well-being.

To schedule, please call or text (818) 210-8353 or email me at katherinemccunelac@gmail.com

When New Mexico mornings and evenings turn chilly, keep a scarf, a high collar, or a light jacket within reach and cover the back of your neck. Here's why:

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, cold wind is believed to enter the body most easily around the neck and upper back. If that exposure seems to contribute to a stiff neck, upper-back tension, or the early run-down feeling that sometimes comes before a cold, you can ask whether acupuncture or cupping may be useful as supportive care alongside appropriate medical attention.

Autumn asks something a little different from us. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this time of year is tied to Metal and the Lung system, which are associated with grief, reflection, healthy boundaries, and the capacity to let go of what's no longer serving you.

You don't need a big gesture to honor that. One small act is usually enough, whether that's clearing a single drawer, writing down an obligation you can set aside, taking a few slow breaths before bed, or allowing yourself to feel sad without rushing yourself through it.

The physical side of the shift matters too. As New Mexico's air dries out, the skin and respiratory system often feel it first, and both are traditionally linked to the Lung in TCM. Caring for the Lung system and protective Wei Qi is viewed as one way to support resilience as the cold and flu season gets closer, with acupuncture available as part of a broader plan rather than a standalone fix.

Autumn is the season of Metal and the Lung in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which makes early fall a practical time to prepare rather than wait until you're already feeling depleted.

Here are a few simple ways to support yourself as our air turns dry:

▪️Drink fluids regularly, and lean on warm beverages when you can
▪️Moisturize your skin and protect your throat on windy days
▪️Notice changes in your breathing or nasal comfort and take them seriously
▪️Make room for rest, reflection, and grief without judging yourself for needing it
▪️Let go of one thing you've been carrying that no longer needs to be yours

In TCM, the Lung system is traditionally associated with the skin, the respiratory system, and protective Wei Qi, which is part of why this stretch of the calendar gets emphasized ahead of cold-and-flu season.

Liver 3, or LV3, is one of the most powerful and frequently used points in all of Chinese medicine, and for good reason.

Located on the top of the foot between the first and second toes, LV3 is known for its ability to move stagnant Qi and restore flow throughout the body. When things feel stuck, whether that's frustration, irritability, tension headaches, eye strain, menstrual discomfort, or emotional tightness, this is often one of the first points we reach for.

The Liver system in Chinese medicine governs the smooth movement of Qi and emotion. When it's out of balance, you feel it in many different ways. LV3 helps bring things back into flow.

This is a great example of why acupuncture is so individualized. Two patients presenting with headaches might need completely different points based on the pattern behind their symptoms.

Dry lips, tight skin, a scratchy throat, or nasal discomfort can be early signs that New Mexico’s dry fall air is settling in.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is associated with the Metal element and the Lung, making September a thoughtful time to support your seasonal wellness routine. Sip warm fluids, stay hydrated, use moisturizer, and consider a humidifier when indoor air feels especially dry.

Acupuncture can also be a personalized part of your fall self-care plan. Curious whether it may be right for you? Call or text Katherine McCune Acupuncture at (818) 210-8353.

Autumn has arrived, and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, that means we've moved into the time of Metal and the Lung system. As New Mexico's air turns cooler and drier, it's important to prepare the body for the dryness that can show up in the throat, nose, breathing, lips, and skin.

Fall also carries a theme of release. It invites us to consider what we're ready to set down, and if grief is part of that for you, please know it deserves patience rather than a deadline.

In TCM, the Lung system is traditionally connected to the skin and the respiratory system, along with protective Wei Qi, often described as the body's outer barrier. Supporting Lung health is typically viewed as part of getting ready for cold-and-flu season.

Katherine McCune Acupuncture sees patients for concerns including grief, stress, allergies, colds, flu, and other respiratory issues.
