What even is Oklahoma Girls State?

I get asked this question frequently and honestly, it’s so much more than just a week away from home. Oklahoma Girls State is a leadership and government program where young women from across the state come together to build mock governments, campaign, hold elections, create laws, and learn what it truly means to lead and make their own voices heard.

Last year, thanks to my American Legion, I had the incredible opportunity to attend as a delegate, and this year, I was honored and incredibly grateful to return as a Junior Counselor.

Getting to come back in a different role and mentor these girls was something so special to me personally. To my Bonham City Berries, thank you for making this week unforgettable. I am SO proud of each and every one of you girls for stepping out of your comfort zones and becoming a little family in just a few short days.

I’m also incredibly grateful for my Assistant Counselor Paisley Ghormley and Senior Counselor Cooper Stoda. They made this experience even more meaningful, and I’ve learned so much from their guidance and constant support. I love you both even if you guys are UNCS lol.

And of course… our shared love for the Thunder made this week even better. Getting to bond over the games, players, and nonstop basketball talk became one of my favorite parts of the week, and I’m genuinely so sad I won’t be able to watch Game 7 with you girls!

Girls State will always hold a special place in my heart. Not just because it teaches government and leadership, but because of the people, the memories, the growth, and the connections that come from being surrounded by strong inspiring young women.
