1. THE U.S. TRADE EMBARGO (1960-PRESENT)
No American cars or parts could be legally imported
2. CUBAN INGENUITY
Cubans kept old cars on the road with homemade parts, Soviet engines, & household items
3. ECONOMIC ISOLATION
No access to new cars; old classics became symbol’s of Cuban history taken in Havana, Cuba by @kmixcc

Ever notice how soca borrows brilliance from the past? Here are 4 iconic soca tracks that sampled or interpolated classics in a way only Caribbean creativity can pull off:
* Voice – “Out & Bad” flips the melody of Lord Kitchener’s “Brooklyn Woman”, bringing vintage calypso soul into a modern groove.
* Square One – “Faluma” is a reimagined version of Ai Sa Si – Faluma, originally a Surinamese folk chant made global by Caribbean rhythms.
* Machel Montano & Patrice Roberts – “Band of De Year” draws its dreamy melody and atmospheric feel from Enya’s “Caribbean Blue” — a genre-bending fusion done right.
* Rupee – “Jump” borrows its call-and-response energy from the legendary Isley Brothers’ “Shout”, turning soul into soca hype.
