Alana Markel
Supporting Superfan
Wed 04 Nov
@ the Old E

Very excited to be adding the wonderful Alana Markel to our show with fellow NYC artist, Superfan.

Alana Markel is a songwriter and composer based in Brooklyn. At the core her left-field pop project is Markel’s interest in contrast. Her voice, both intimate and powerful, leaps and winds through layered melodies and compositions, which vary from spare and precise to complex and expansive.

Combining electronic and acoustic elements, Markel’s most recent EP I Love You explores love from all sides, at times deeply intimate and then from a distant bird’s eye view. taken in The Old England by @kneed___

🌾

We return to the Louis with one of our new favourite bands, Curbside Lambsear - featuring members from Caroline and the Umlauts - signed to the excellent Scenic Route label.

Curbside Lambsear is Annabelle Mödlinger and Magdalena McLean. The collaboration explores rough textures and soft intentions, weaving together elements of pop, folk, and improvisation with influences of drone, dub, and post-punk.

Looking forward to bringing South-London based artist Max Winter to cafe kino in October.

Joining him will be the amazing avant-pop songwriter and producer Mary Jane Dunphe from New York

Deer park is the music of Andy Santella, whose variegated soundworld spans close-mic’d bedroom guitar pop, low-lidded rap, and hard-slapping production for the likes of fakemink, jackzebra, and Jawnino.

His Deleted-enabled debut album Terra Infirma splits his sound neatly into two halves: the first sees echoic guitar language meet traditional song forms, while the second works in repetitions and elisions, electronic and acoustic. Since then, his sound has expanded across territories, drifting at ease between a range of formal registers — fogged-out turnups alongside Mechatok, drone shows in Parisian churches, sylvan Soundcloud ballads, and collabs with an eclectic constellation of musicians: Chanel Beads, Ivy Knight, Thomas Thatcher, and many more.

Deer park weaves an all-his own sensibility from the chance encounters and horseshoe theories of contemporary microscenes.

next week ! @nashpaints_ is joining us at @cafekino sept 30th *•

nashpaints is finn carraher mcdonald from dublin. finn’s records always feel like a subterranean journey, sitting at the intersection of other-worldly electronic production, liminal 80s pop-scapes & more tactile analogue sounds. alongside his solo work, finn also produces for the likes of @maria__somerville (who he played with at Strange Brew in Feb) and is a member of Princ€ss. it all makes sense 🫂

latest album ‘everyone good is called molly’ is out now via excellent Dublin label @mirrorvvorld — and sits right at top of our albums of the year so far.

ffo: cindy lee, bullion, maria somerville, playing zelda, avant-pop, ML buch, officer john
