CULTURAL CRAFT CENTRE ASERO, ABEOKUTA (2024)
.
Brief: To design an Energy efficient Cultural craft centre in Abeokuta, on the existing "Osoba Adire/Kampala international market" which improves the utility of the existing site while fostering enterprise, preserving culture & boosting national tourism.
.
Following my passion for indigenous Nigerian crafts & Adire fabric specifically, the aim of my design was to create an organic vocational craft centre that fosters sales, education, promotion and production of Adire & asooke, while also lowering the embodied energy & cost involved in the production process.
.
We adopted a few strategies to boost the energy efficiency of the entire project, using materials like laterite, rafia & bamboo as a key building materials, known for their thermal insulating properties, while strategically also using perforated blocks as shading devices to further buffer heat, while still aiding ventilation. We also adopted renewable energy sources like solar energy, to reduce their dependency on the national grid, further lowering their embodied cost.
.
A core part of our design was also for the project to have an obvious cultural identity, thus further explaining our material choice and why we imprinted various adire patterns onto the laterite walls.
.
This project is n line with the national initiative to boost the production of export worthy goods, while also aiding tourism into the country. The Ogun state government @ogsgofficial dapoabiodunmfr have invested generously into the promotion of the textile industry in the state. This project aims to further explore the promotion and preservation of indigenous Cultural crafts like Adire & Aso oke in Nigeria while fostering their export internationally.

PASSIVE & INCLUSIVE POSTGRADUATE HOSTEL, University of Lagos (2024)
.
Brief: To design a mixed post graduate hostel that fosters a sense of inclusiveness while implementing passive & vernacular design strategies to reduce the embodied cost of cooling the building
.
This design features hostel blocks for single & married students, bearing in mind their peculiar needs.
.
The strategic perforations between blocks, walls & floors majorly improves the air flow within the building, while the building's thermal mass constituting of Laterite blocks significantly improves the thermal comfort within the building.
.
On multiple levels in the design, there are interrelated/ shared terraces to further improve social interaction within the building.
.
This design explores the implementation of passive & vernacular design strategies on high-rise buildings taken in University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba Nigeria by @knf.design

Although this was a group project, it's probably my favorite architecture school presentation, solely for the ingenuity involved in merging the ideas together, and the presentation style we chose to pass the message across to the stakeholders @unilagnigeria @unilagvc @archi_unilag

Final Architectural Masters thesis: Design of an energy efficient Cultural Craft Centre, Asero, Abeokuta.

Following my passion for indigenous Nigerian crafts & Adire fabric specifically, the aim of my design was to create a craft centre that fosters the education, promotion and production of indigenous crafts while also lowering the embodied energy & cost involved in the production process.

This project is also in line with the national initiative to boost the production of export worthy goods, while promoting the #wearNigerian narrative within the country .
The Ogun state government @ogsgofficial @dapoabiodunmfr has also invested generously into the promotion of the textile industry in the state. SUSTAINABLE HOUSING. DAURA, KATSINA.
.
UIA 2022 "Great Green Wall" competition entry
.
Our design is aimed at providing great vernacular and passive architectural solutions through the use of sustainable building materials like Laterite, Bamboo & Rafia, while also minimising the use of materials with a high carbon footprint.
.
We leveraged majorly on the thermal insulation properties of these readily available materials in order to keep as much heat out of the buildings as possible, while also reducing the amount of embodied energy required for the designs to be executed. We also tried to achieve efficient ventilation with the use of well suited Bamboo fenestration & perforated Laterite brick patterns.
.
The clusers are designed to suit the traditional lifestyle of Daura people by creating layers of communal engagement, first within a family unit, then within a general cluster. The clusters can then go on to be replicated and linked together.

CLUB HOUSE DESIGN

Proposed design for a Beach Club House in Lagos Nigeria.

This space serves as a transition point between indoor and outdoor activities and tries to foster great communal relationships within the spaces.

We took major inspiration from Rustic & Ethnik Haus design elements to create a distinct Afro-centric themed club house.
