As a consortium member of @nyfic_official, I was inspired to see “Farm to Fashion” featured in @voguemagazine following its premiere at @tribeca.

As beautifully captured in Vogue: “In director @oliverhalfin’s charming short—executive produced by @fromtheroad and legendary fashion publicist @kellycutrone—@farmtofashion follows an intriguing textile journey: tracing how sustainably sourced sheep’s wool from an upstate New York farm can transform into high-fashion pieces on Manhattan runways. The film highlights how this process may not be as complex, costly, or labor-intensive as often assumed. As Halfin shares, ‘Farm to Fashion is a powerful story that returns to fashion’s roots and natural resources, as the industry reimagines itself for the future.’”

We are excited to celebrate the world premiere of Farm To Fashion @farmtofashionfilm as an Official Selection of the Shorts: Fierce Fashion category at the Tribeca Festival @tribeca.

Directed by @oliverhalfin and featuring @isabellarossellini @donnakaranthewoman @mimiprober, alongside the Baaahrilliant Animals, Farmers, Mills, and Artisans of NY State!

The film highlights the growing movement connecting farms, fiber, manufacturing, and design across New York State, and the people working to build a more connected future for fashion and textiles. Through our work on the ground, and as a @nyfic_official consortium member, we are proud to be a part of bringing this vision to life.

WESTERN SANDPIPER
It was exciting to have such good views of two Western Sandpipers mixed in with a small group of Sanderlings. Western Sandpipers are noticeably smaller and paler, with a finer, slightly drooping bill, while the Sanderlings are chunkier with bolder black-and-white patterning. It was a great opportunity to compare the two species side by side.

At one point, one of the Western Sandpipers was positioned next to a ball of string. I was intrigued by the contrast of their rounded forms. You can see this in images 1, 2 and the short video.

GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL
The beautifully intricate wing patterning of a juvenile Great Black-Backed Gull is a mix of warm browns, creams, and soft greys.

This gull was standing peacefully on the beach until it spotted another juvenile that had found a piece of animal fat, possibly marine mammal blubber, that had washed ashore. The second gull then flew into the water with its prize. We watched as the two gulls fought for possession.
